On today’s show, we had special guests Zerek Keel and Jakoby Odineal from the Warren County High School Wrestling Team. We discussed how both of them are ranked fifth in the state in their weight class and how WCHS ranks tenth overall in the state. We also covered topics such as school closures, upcoming events, and more.
Warren First 931: Your local hub for all things community!
[00:00:37] Good morning, Warren First 931, I'm Kelly And I'm Brian And currently in downtown McMinnville, it is, I'm telling you guys, the weather is crazy But it's 37 degrees in downtown McMinnville, but it feels like 45 degrees We are in the beautiful establishment once again at Topstros and Yogurt in Metro Deli And as you can see, right Brian, we got the Park Theater right behind us
[00:01:03] Yes, the historic Park Theater and coming soon, Spear Bubble Magic January 19th, and Songwriters Contest January 31st So all you songwriters, get your notes and ready, get everything, get your guitars and mandolins tuned up It's time to sing some music And with that said, of course, today is another snow day, which I'm so excited about And I know a lot of kids are excited about as well And look, I want to send a shout out to the Warren County School System
[00:01:30] Thank you, Dr. Swallows, for going ahead and telling folks yesterday at 2 o'clock That you guys were going to go ahead and cancel school I know when I was coming in this morning, Kelly, that there were stretches of road that were pretty iced over So thank you for making that decision early enough And I know the teachers and the kids, thank you for that too And speaking of young people, we've got two awesome young men going to be on the show here in just a little bit I am so excited that Warren County is a moving and a grooving in the athletic department Oh my goodness, well our wrestling team, this is probably the best we've ever done, guys
[00:02:00] So we're really excited to tell you a little more about who our special guests are today But with that said, recapping on the school closures today I want to say first and foremost, the one school that I'm aware of that is open today And you should already have been in school by now Is FC Boyd Christian School They did not call off yesterday So if you're FC Boyd Christian School student And you couldn't get to, you know, school because of maybe the roads were bad in your area
[00:02:27] The best thing I would do is to call that call your school and say Hey, I know you were open, but it was still icy in some areas And I didn't feel comfortable, you know, driving my son or and or daughter back to school But with that said, the ones that we are aware of And this was updated yesterday after 4.25 p.m. There was Cannon County, Coffey County, Covenant Academy, Brookside Head Start, DeKalb County, Midway Head Start, Van Buren County, Warren and White County
[00:02:56] And those are the schools that are closed right now Due to, you know, all that melting yesterday, Brian, is what I'm guessing is what they're capitalizing on Is, you know, from the, it was 20 degrees, 20 degrees below yesterday And the chances of ice freezing over That's that, I know that when you go outside and you're going to work You're like, oh, but the main roads are fine Well, yeah, they're fine because those main roads get iced And, you know, doused Not like the back roads can
[00:03:25] And I do want to say too, a shout out to The other day when I went to my cousin's house To any individuals that volunteered their time To clean their neighbor's roads I saw a guy on a tractor scooping the back roads over in the airport area Oh, yeah And I was just like, that's not normal And then we just waved and I was like, oh, that's that neighbor that lives across the street So, I think that's always so nice And I want to send a shout out to our road superintendent
[00:03:55] And thank you so much for all the TDOT workers that have been out working Plowing in the front, salting in the back That's what they did That's going to be a t-shirt I just want everybody to know I'm just saying And good morning, Jamie, Jayco and friends Thank you for tuning in with us And just like everybody else Now, currently in downtown McMinnville Like I said, it's 37 degrees And it feels like, though, 45 with the sun coming out Because today, as you can see The high is supposed to be 41 today
[00:04:24] And then the low is 22 And then as you can look at the rest of the forecast It's going to be sunny tomorrow Wednesday and Thursday And then rain is going to be starting, unfortunately Coming in on the weekend But again, this is Tennessee weather So I would not expect anything less, right? No, and thank you, Reddick Brown Ford For sponsoring our weather today Really appreciate everything that you do for our little podcast Exactly I love it And again, if you are interested in ever

I'm ready Let's go Come on in Mr. Jacoby Odenil and Mr. Zarek Kiel Yes Of our own Warren County Pioneers Wrestling Team Gentlemen, how are y'all doing this morning? Good, how are you doing? All right I mean, look at that deep voice
[00:06:18] They're like, we're ready for this Yeah Yeah But you know, I was so excited when You know, following you guys Following what your dad I mean, I know your dad personally Because he was like my computer teacher Back in the day in middle school And you know, just talk a little bit About y'all's experience Because it seems like the wrestling team is thriving Y'all are like at the top of your game Yeah I remember freshman year starting out Having like a couple seniors On and off
[00:06:48] Just seven people in the room at the end of the year I mean, and now just we've got 30 Compared to last year Wow That's amazing And let me introduce these guys as far as Because they're not just Warren County wrestlers These are state-ranked wrestlers Yes And they're both fifth in their respected weight divisions This is Mr. Jarrett Hilton You're wrestling 215? Yeah 215 And this is Mr. Jacoby Odenil
[00:07:17] And he's wrestling 106? Yes All right And Jarrett, you are a senior, right? Yeah, yeah I'm a senior And Jacoby, you are a sophomore, right? Yes So guys, this lets us know That there is going to be some longevity In this Warren County streak The coaches have done a really good job Now, with you being a senior And you're telling us about what it was like Getting started What are your plans for the future?
[00:07:46] I was going to go to UTC I don't think I'm going to wrestle there, though It's brutal Well, it is a Division I And it's the only Division I program In the state of Tennessee Oh, what division are we? Well, as far as like in the state We're Division II Or not Division II But we're AA Yeah Is where we're at So, and on top of that Warren County ranks ninth In AA In the state of Tennessee
[00:08:16] Oh, wow And we're up there with some Amazing schools Like Bradley Central And Well, I've got it up here on the On computer Cleveland Summit Summit There's a lot of great schools But to see Warren County at number nine And we'll make a post about that You guys have done an amazing job So, how did you guys get started in wrestling? I was playing football eighth grade year For Coach Matheny at the middle school
[00:08:43] And he tried to tell me to wrestle for a minute And I wouldn't do it And he finally talked me into it And I went to a wrestling practice one day And I just I loved it Ever since Aw How about you, Zarek? I started out In fourth grade They Coach Hulcombe Talking about Talking about wrestling Over the announcements And I asked my mom a couple times She said no And then she finally caved in So She Started to let me wrestle Good old parents right there
[00:09:12] I can see a mom protecting her baby Yeah But wrestling is a pretty safe sport In the grand scheme of things Compared to Football And stuff But Now did you guys ever play You played football Did you play football? I did But PUE in like middle school Okay So what do you think Is more Intensive Physically intensive Football or wrestling Wrestling Wrestling Wrestling Hands down And Yeah Not everybody's made With that mentality Of going out with Every part of their being And
[00:09:40] Killing somebody And that's what you guys do And you guys I've got to witness them Lay the smack down On Moore County And Riverdale The other night And that was That was awesome To watch you guys And I tell you I saw with With the first match With Moore County This This man got a forfeit Did you get to wrestle Moore County Or did they forfeit you As well That's what Why did they forfeit Well first off Is there a reason Tell us why I
[00:10:11] At the They didn't have They don't have much But I talked to the coach And he was like The 215 Had a flat tire And he couldn't make it Okay I'd take a flat tire too If I was gonna get Beat down I was gonna say When I saw Derek walk in I was like Oh my gosh We need a bodyguard Here At Warren first As well I just thought You were accompanying him But I think that's great 106 Let's go Look Now you did wrestle Riverdale And man
[00:10:40] I was so impressed You went at that He wasn't a bad wrestler He was actually A pretty good wrestler But You made him look Pretty easy I mean As far as that goes So yeah And You've got another There's another Gentleman on the wrestling team That's ranked fifth In the state Okay And Xavier And He wrestles At the heavyweight Right Yeah So Do you and Xavier Wrestle a lot Because you're Closer in weight Started out I was like 197 And he was like 218
[00:11:09] And we wrestled off And I beat him And he decided They didn't want to Wrestle again And he just went 285 So Yeah But the fact In practice That's how you get To wrestle against A lot of times And you make Each other better When you do that Who do you generally wrestle When you're in practice I wrestle with our JV106 a lot Kenley Mitchell And I also wrestle With our 120 Varsity Jalen Clayton a lot Yeah And I was gonna say You know We got the gentleman here
[00:11:39] And I Hey If any of the wrestlers Want to come on And talk The girls Is there girls The girls on your team Yeah So girls can wrestle I just want everybody to know It's a thing Yeah We're gonna have a special Segment sometime Kelly Where it's just the girls I got to sit and interview A few of them I was wondering And yeah They were really excited There's a lot of momentum Just with the program And they had a big A big loss Outside of the wrestling ring At the beginning of the season Of the loss of Coach Turner Yeah And I know that affected everybody But the coaches
[00:12:08] Have powered on And that's just Another thing You guys have faced So much adversity Yeah But you guys still Keep winning And I know That makes everybody proud Especially Coach Turner And the coaches Like you know Talk about the transition Have they made it Really smooth And easy going for you guys Yeah It's been pretty smooth He's a good coach I miss him Yeah But you know That was his decision To step away At the time Well why don't you Like what Say some positive things About Coach Turner That you guys like so much He
[00:12:38] Whenever I won Bradley He was like the first person To message me And he wasn't even there He was about 75 miles away In Warren County But he was the first person To message me About Bradley And he knows That's a pretty big Tournament to me Oh yeah Yeah That's awesome I love it And did you Hit Coach Turner as well Yeah He's just a Really positive guy Just always Positive About everything Even Facing tough losses And stuff It always builds you up Yeah I love that Now
[00:13:07] You were talking about Bradley What are your high points And what are your low points Of wrestling Like The tournament Or just in general Just in general Your careers Or you know Through all the matches You played Which one's been The best one Which one's been The most hard You know The hardest and stuff Probably some of my Hardest ones Were like Wrestling Like Stanford Thompson Wrestling Just like Junior year State Freshman year State
[00:13:36] Freshman state Actually Was pretty rough I Remember that one Yeah Probably some of the Highlights though Is just like Being a part of the team And Being a team captain To a really good Wrestling team So you are the team Captain Yeah I was a team Captain Freshman year Wow Such a big Leadership role And tell me How about you What's been the Highest point And what are the Lowest points My highest points Were
[00:14:06] Qualifying for state As a freshman That was really Big for me Me and Zarek The only two guys From 1K To do that Wow But One of my lowest Was at state Just had a Couple bad draws Just wrestled Really hard kids And I didn't do Too well at state But Well But you pushed Through it Well the beautiful Thing is you learn From these For those of you Don't know I grew up And wrestled Some In Millington Tennessee
[00:14:36] Outside of Memphis But my youngest Brother He wound up Going to the State championships In What they call A folk style Or the type of Wrestling That these guys Are doing And he lost By points In the championship Match But the guy He wrestled He wound up Going off to Oklahoma State And wrestling And my brother Wound up Going to UT Chattanooga And wrestling For them And so And it wasn't Fun anymore It was a job And there are A lot easier Things you can do In life
[00:15:06] Than wrestling Just to pay For your books So But while They're doing It right now You guys Are riding The wave Yeah So Congratulations For what You guys Are doing And you know Speaking of You know Zarek I cannot say I'm going to Get it eventually Being a senior What are you Wanting to do At UTC Like what Are you Going to Major in Business Management Okay That's very Smart Have you already Thought what you Wanted to do When you go To college Or if you Are going To college
[00:15:36] Yeah I was Wanting to Go to college I don't Know where I thought A little bit About wrestling College I don't know If I'm going To do it You know It's just A different Skill level But I think I could do It But I've Thought a lot About going To like The business Like real estate Path plans To market Okay Well I'm sure He knows A few people Locally That can Give you some Pointers Real estate Real estate And business That's another A great thing About And we're

[00:17:04] Shout out To your Moms Because they're The ones That have To witness All this Stuff I've not Had a Heart Attack Yet I'm just Going to Say As mom My son Also Wants To wrestle And I Haven't Pulled The cord Yet Oh come On Kelly And I Was just Like You gotta Make it Walker Would be Awesome I think He would Now Another Thing about These parents I met A gentleman The other Day His Kid Graduated Two years Ago But he's Still Helping The wrestling Boosters And still Working That's Nice It becomes A family And to See These kids

[00:22:32] I want to say There's maybe 16 different Weight classes And wrestling at 106 Little guys can get And as they grow through High school Yeah That they can go up And that's how Some of the best wrestlers And about that The heavyweights wrestle Different than the little guys Some because the heavyweights Are generally much stronger Because they're much bigger Right So there's a lot of Strategy involved But the thing is They're building drive In these people Again, this is the most Physically intensive sport This is almost like
[00:23:01] Being in the military In a lot of cases Oh, that is And it develops Good character Good life skills For these young people And especially Our young women Women's wrestling Is starting to get Into its own thing Right now And so hopefully Here in the near future We'll have some of these I would love to have These ladies in wrestling Come in They look like Crossfit models Is what they look like Well, there you go I love that And they're confident And they feel good About themselves And that's one of the things That we want to encourage With our young women Especially being a father Of young girls

[00:24:30] And cold weather And cold front And then it goes away It just disappears And then of course Friday, Saturday, and Sunday They're calling for rain And I'm telling everybody If you know who Mother Nature is Personally Give her some chocolate Some flowers And a hug Because she needs to Keep I like sunny weather But I do like Some snowy weather As well And I want to say To everybody That tried Or liked That the frozen bubbles I want to give A shout out

[00:25:29] And to see all the Different colors you can do And you're going to see A lot more Do-it-yourself projects When people are at home Doing nothing You know So if you want Cool ideals I've over the One of the other Holiday things I did With my children During the Christmas break Which I haven't posted it Was making homemade Lava lamps And that involved Colored water It involved Vegetable oil And it included Oh one of those Tabs Oh it was
[00:25:59] Alka-Seltzer tabs Oh okay And you put it in there And then what happens Is essentially With the water In the Alka-Seltzer Activates the oil And it goes up and down Like a lava lamp So did you not need A light at the bottom No Oh cool That's even safer With the coloration Yeah with the coloration Of the water It just It was really neat Oh cool And our Elfie Actually brought that With all the directions In case anybody's watching Well thank you Elfie Yes

[00:50:41] I'm Kelly. And I'm Brian. And currently in downtown McMinnville, we're at? It's 39 degrees with a high of 41, possibly 42. So we're going to just take their word for it. But, yeah, 39 degrees right now, Kelly. All right. And as you guys can see, thanks again to our community weather sponsors, Reddick Brown Ford. If you guys are needing, they actually have this cool thing, which now I can actually bring us back in. Bring me back. Bring me back.
[00:51:10] They have this cool thing now where you can call. They do a pickup and delivery with your car. So, like, if you're in a certain mile radius, you just call them at that phone number. And they will tell you, like, where to go and stuff like that. Oh, cool. And you can be at home and they'll pick up your car. And service it. Service it. Oil change it. Fix the wipers. Tires. Tires. Clean car detail work. All that.
[00:51:34] Well, I know when I'm driving down the 55 highway and I see those awesome vehicles, those trucks and those. The Broncos. And I'm thinking, man. Makes you want one. I know. Oh, I know. I'm the same way. I'm the same way. I see all those cute little summer, spring and summer colors, the reds and the blues. And I'm like, oh. With that said, it is getting close to time. We got all these stuff going on.
[00:52:02] And somebody brought this to my attention over the weekend. There is, and I don't think it's hit, I want to say this, Warren County yet. It's hitting multiple outside counties right now. And it's called a brushing scam. Now, my mother-in-law brought this to my attention because she actually got something in the mail, but it didn't come with a QR code. So, I want to explain this. So, a recent scam has been showing up in many states. It's called a brushing scam.
[00:52:31] It's when someone receives an unexpected gift and or item that they did not order that came in the mail, like from Amazon or any other company. So, examples like gifts, rings, bracelets, necklaces, and so forth. So, the gift will also have the recipient's address, but it does not include the sender's information, like who sent it to you. So, if you don't have, if you get this, you can open it up, but do not follow the instructions, please.
[00:53:00] Because when you do, it's going to have like a QR code that it's asking you to scan it so the person who sent it to you knows that they got your gift. Or they, you know, you've done something. But if you get a gift that does not have a sender's name on it, do not scan that QR code.
[00:53:20] But if you do scan that QR code, unfortunately, all your information from your phone will be sent to the scammer, and they will receive all access to not just your phone, but your personal and financial information will be accessible to the scanner. And often, if the victim has their bank accounts on there, it can get drained. Oh, no. It's a thing.
[00:53:47] And the gift can be kept or thrown away, but the QR code is the thing I want to stress. If you get a gift that has no sender information on it, and there's a QR code with it, do not scan it. If anything, you can report it to us, report it to the police department, let them know that this is something that's going on that you want people to be aware of.
[00:54:12] But, you know, and then once you scan this, you know, unfortunately, you've done it voluntarily. There's not much you can do after that. No. That's the sad thing about this scam. Yeah, because our technology is advancing so quickly and everything does come with a barcode of some kind or some type of QR code, everything is linked in your phone. Scammers can get this information, and that's something that you don't want to have happen.
[00:54:39] So, guys, please make sure that anything that you don't get, don't scan just anything. And that's just, even if you're walking down the road and you see a QR code for something, please be leery of what's going on. Yeah, make sure it's a verified QR code. You never know what it's going to be. That's the scary part of all this. And real quickly, Brian, you want to do some shout outs? Who's been watching our show this morning? Oh, this is one of my favorite parts of the show. Good morning, Jamie Jaco.
[00:55:06] Thank you so much for, and she actually sent me a message online about something really poignant that we might want to close with today. Okay, I love it. Thank you. About time with your children. Also, Sharon Walker, good morning. Shout out to my mama. And Miss Reetha, thank you so much for joining us this morning. And Miss Keel, didn't he say that was his grandma? That was his grandma, and I think you pronounce her name, Sidious? Sidious.
[00:55:36] I think. I'm just going to call her Miss Keel. Thank you so much, Miss Keel, for Scotty and Zarek and the rest of the family. And he has another brother, too. He does. Yeah, he does. So, and Jansen Odenil, thank you so much for joining us today, Mr. Jansen. And again, let's go down to Deanna Tucker. Thank you so much, Deanna, for the comments. And Miss Karen Young, thank you. And my favorite Englishman. Yes.
[00:56:06] He needs to come. You need to come on Friday's show. Come, come, come, come, come, come. He is my favorite Englishman. Okay. And there's a great backstory behind him. Anyhow. I can't wait to hear it. There it is. Save the backstory for Friday. Oh, no, no. This is something too personal. Oh, okay. No, no. I used to date a girl and I lost her to Hugh Grant. And so I hated him. No, you didn't. Oh, my goodness. Is this true? Not the Hugh Grant. Oh, okay. A Hugh Grant.
[00:56:35] I feel like there should be a support group for people called Hugh Grant that is not Hugh Grant. It's the accent. But anyhow, Derek's got it. And the look. Derek is my favorite Englishman and he can tell us about Boxing Day and tell us about some of the English customs that he's brought over here to the greater Warren County area. So shout out Derek Coates. And I want to say thanks to him because he's the first person that reached out and our show got broadcasted or watched overseas.
[00:57:04] Is that how you're saying it? Oh, nice. So I thought, oh, my gosh, I've made it. Somebody in England's watching us. Like, yes. But with that said, thanks for everybody watching our show and continuing on. And again, all this information that we're getting is stuff that we found on social media and or, you know, websites, you know, verified websites. And one other thing I want to talk about, the city of McMinnville, about, you know, the Pace Street subdivision development.
[00:57:29] If you live out in that area, which is located on the northern portion of the city of McMinnville between Red Road and Faulkner Springs Road. Pace Street is in the second lane on the residential streets stretching 0.66 miles on the eastern section of the street. It closes or it's close, I should say, to the intersection of Red Road and is a 20 acre track of land. That is a site that is proposed a single family subdivision.
[00:57:55] And if anybody hasn't seen it, they're they're building their summary up right now. And I'm loving to see how Warren County is ever so growing in our little areas. And so if you're seeing it, make sure you and all this information I found out was on the city of McMinnville government's page, which I really liked. And I followed it on a quick link that the city government Facebook page had.
[00:58:20] And you can also see on there if you go on there, guys, the project phases, like what phase they are in, which I think is phenomenal. So we're doing seeing a lot of roadwork at the Angel Bridge. We had the, you know, the demolishing of the VFW. You have Pace Street. We are ever so growing. And it's like, you know, the Jimmy Haley always said, you know, oh, he always uses it.
[00:58:45] And I just left my mind about, you know, if you if you if you don't go with the change, you know, you're going to die with it or die. And there's so much truth to that, you know, with change, which not all change is a good thing. Sometimes it's sad. It makes us sad like the VFW. It breaks my heart seeing the demolishing of it. But at the same time, I hope that it grows into something big. Well, Kelly, I think that'd be a great segment to have at some point in time is do you remember?
[00:59:15] Oh, yeah. And if people can post on things that they miss here. I'm going to take your sunglasses. You go right ahead. While you're talking to me and I'm trying to focus here because we have moved three times. Talk to me, man. I'm trying to get my head in. Talk to me, ho-ho. Let's go. Now, one of the things about how much Warren County has changed over the years. People need to know because people who've moved in or younger people don't know about these things. They don't know about the old red dog.
[00:59:42] And so we want to make sure that people can reflect and give us this historical information. So, yeah, at some point in time, we'll have an episode or a show or a link. These are good shades. They're my dollar tree. I lose sunglasses. I noticed the tag, Mert Mini Pearl. Look at that. Tag's still there. I love it. Sorry, I tried. But I don't care. It's okay. It's okay. But go ahead. No, I think it's real.
[01:00:10] If you don't know your history, you're doomed to repeat it. That's correct. One of the things about knowing the history of Warren County is keeping our young people informed, keeping the new people. Because, Kelly, I don't know if you noticed it, but we have a lot of new people that have moved into the greater Warren County area. And we want to welcome them with open arms. But we want to teach them about our culture and what's made Warren County such a wonderful place. Some of the negative things that we don't need to repeat. So we'll never have those things happen again. Exactly.
[01:00:38] But, yeah, I love having Jimmy Haley on, and I'm looking forward to our history with Haley segments. Oh, yes. We're going to be bringing that back up. I'm going to get with him so we can nail some more dates down. And like my mom, my good mom is a promoter. Make sure to invite everybody once again on Friday. If you are just now tuning in with us this Friday, we are celebrating Warren First 931's one-year birthday. And I'm all about celebrating all month long. Let me tell you. I rolled that out.
[01:01:07] But with that said, we're going to be broadcasting live from 830 to 130 at the Chamber of Commerce Community Room. And if you don't come, you better because my mother is making all the little mini appetizers. All right. And so I'm telling you, getting some of my mom's good cooked food, yes. Yay, Mary Beth Lackson. Yes. For sure. Another thing is it's going to be a celebrity green room.
[01:01:34] So if you want to rub elbows with the McMinnville celebrities. The best of the best, man. You need to come and show up because. And look, you guys are the stars of this show. They are. You're our neighbors. You're the ones who send out the information. You're the ones who make us great. So we thank you for all that you do for our podcast and helping us grow and helping us reach greater and higher achievements. So thank you guys. Yes. We look forward to seeing you all. And look, even if the room can't fit everybody. No. We might have to do mobile outside around the fountain. We're just going to pray for good weather.
[01:02:04] Good weather is all I care about at this point. And I do know that, you know, the Chamber of Commerce is having actually two big events that day. One being mine. And then a shout out to Main Street Media. Oh, yeah. They had their red ribbon cutting rescheduled for that day, I believe, at 1130. I don't have the details in front of me because I'm fixing to have to go to break so we can call Melody to talk about what she knows that's going on of all this craziness. But, again, there's so many things going on.
[01:02:31] If you want to stay informed of what's going on, please, please join our text club. It's like right here. Right here. All you got to do in the sender on the two part, you send it to 81010. And then in the message, type in at Warren931. It's that simple. It's that easy. It's the Remind app because that's just the easiest way to do it to make sure no one gets your phone number.
[01:02:57] And like Brian says all the time, don't forget to like and subscribe as well because that is going to keep you informed of what's going on. My goal is to talk about anything. I said this last year and I feel like I'm on repeat, but I don't care. I talk about anything and everything going on in Warren County. If I miss it, it's because of two things. I wasn't told about it or I'm going to say three things. It wasn't told about it. I couldn't find it or my algorithm isn't showing it to me.
[01:03:27] And that's the truth, guys. That's true. So if you don't have my phone number, my email or follow us on Warren11931, I'll never know about it. And I want to know about it because if it's important to you, it's important to us. But we're going to take a quick break so we can get Miss Melody Krim on the phone to talk about unsolved mysteries. Is that the best way to say that? Yes, that is a good one.
[01:03:51] And guys, if you're a conspiracy theorist or if you're anybody who may have information, stay tuned because we can use your help. I would love it. What if we broke the case here? Wouldn't that be crazy? That would be insane. Another thing I can do for you guys. I would love it. Oh, my goodness. Let's find it out. But with that said, let's get with Gateway Tire and Service Center. They're one of our many sponsors that doesn't just sponsor the podcast, but they also sponsor our weekly newsletter. So let's hear a word from them. And remember, Warren County, keep it first.
[01:04:22] My dad had a vision in 1964 to start Ganton Bolton. Now it's Gateway Tire and Service Center. He wanted our customers to have the best products and service at a fair price. That was his motto then, and that still stands today. We promise to be upfront and honest with each and every customer. [01:07:13] You're back hanging out with Kelly. And Brian. And this is Warren First 931. All local, all the time. But right now, currently in downtown McMinnville, we are at 39 degrees, Brian. All right. And of course, shout out to our sponsors for our community weather. Yes, thank you, Reddick Brown Ford, for all that you do in sponsoring us and sponsoring the weather. Guys, make sure that you stop by Reddick Brown Ford. Check out their services.
[01:07:40] Kelly was just saying in the last segment about how you could actually schedule a pickup. They'll come and pick your vehicle up. They'll take it. They'll service it. And they'll bring it back to you. Guys, what a world that we live in. That's awesome to have. Isn't that nice? So there's no excuses for not getting your oil changed or your tires changed or your wipers or anything else changed. But again, thank you, Reddick Brown Ford, for what you do for us here at Warren First and here in the community as a whole. Exactly.
[01:08:07] And with that said, we have our very own, my original OG, Melody Krim, is on the phone with us once again. And she always finds she is one of the best content strategists when I started this podcast over a year ago. And I was like, oh, my gosh, how did I not know all these things were happening? And she honestly, guys, got me involved and invested in even more stuff that goes on in this community. And I have to give her props for that. Oh, amen.
[01:08:36] Oh, you're welcome. I appreciate you. But with that said, one interesting thing I love about Melody is, and I say this, and she's going to laugh how I'm going to say this. I call this her dark side, okay? Now, she likes things like going to, you know, graveyard sites or something for her birthday. Not me, not me. But with that said, she finds these, like, unsolved mysteries.
[01:09:02] And she found this one that is locally here in Warren County. Right, Mel? Okay. So here's the thing. Every city, every town has a dark side. And, you know, our town is an incredible town. I love it so much. We've talked about this numerous times. But there are things that have happened in this town. This town has a dark history. And this, I have no ties to this person.
[01:09:29] But for some reason, this story has stuck with me since the first time I heard about it many years ago after I moved here. And it came up again. And she pops up every now and then. And I just wanted to talk about it on air because this is a small town. And somebody out there knows what happened. And the person I'm talking about is Ramona May Priest, also known as Mona. And on February 6, 2001.
[01:09:59] So we're coming up, what? On 23 years that she's been missing. But on to 2001, she was 19 years old. And she disappeared. For some reason, she was at the jail. I don't know why. What her past was, it doesn't matter. But she had gotten released from the jail. They said the city jail in this article. But I don't think there was a city jail. I think that's still the county jail. The one jail that we have.
[01:10:28] Because it says Security Circle. But she was seen leaving there. That was the last time she was seen. She left behind all of her belongings and her infant child. Which, like I said, this is 2001. This infant child is now an adult. This is a child who has the only memory she has or he has of their mom is other people's memories.
[01:10:57] This child never got to know their mom. This is somebody's mother. This is somebody's friend. This is somebody's child. And it just, I just don't feel like it gets the recognition and the attention that it deserves. And I do feel that somebody in this town knows what happened. I mean, there's no way that somebody doesn't know. Somebody has bragged. Somebody has gotten too drunk or was on drugs and started talking about it. Somebody knows.
[01:11:25] And after 20-something years, it's time to tell somebody about it. You know? I agree. So, keep going. Go ahead. No, no, no. Well, and then here, I'm just saying I followed this for a very long time. And here's the interesting thing. Because I follow this Tennessee missing person page. Tennessee missing and unsolved page. Actually, I think it follows me. Because I don't go on there on purpose. It just keeps popping up on my feed.
[01:11:52] But the person who raised this child, her child was by the name of Tresia. She's got several names. Tresia, Regina, King, Christopher. Okay. And this person also has a checkered past. Apparently, there was another mysterious death, murder in her past. So, I don't know if she was also involved. Somehow, she ended up being the one.
[01:12:19] Her son was the baby daddy of Mona's child. And somehow, she ended up being the one who raised this child. So, this is the first time that name ever got brought up in any of the articles. But about 10 years before Ramona disappeared, she had a mysterious husband died under mysterious circumstances. Really? Yeah. So, I'm like, wait a minute. Why hasn't this been mentioned before?
[01:12:48] And again, I'm not saying anything for fact. I'm just relaying what I'm reading in this article. But, I'm just saying, if you know something, start the new year outright. Unburden that guilt. Let somebody know. This is still an open case. They're still trying to figure out what happened. But to me, somebody doesn't disappear on purpose and leave behind their infant child and all of their belongings. She just vanished with nothing. Yeah.
[01:13:18] That's so sad. Melanie, I see that Chris Stanford, back in the summer, summer of 2024, actually shared the same thing. Oh, yes. Yes, he did. So, this is a case that they're aware of that they're needing help solve, too. Yeah. So, our wonderful audience and Warren County First family members and following members,
[01:13:43] please, if you have any information about this, please let us know or contact the authorities. But, this is a sad and tragic case. It is. With this being so long ago, I don't think that the outcome is going to be very happy in this case. But, still. You never know. You never know what people want to know. Yeah. And so, well, Mellie, that's... That's pretty good. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
[01:14:12] Hopefully, maybe we'll be the ones that reach the right person or somebody that's moved out of town and is now hearing it. But, I just feel like it's time. I mean, if this child is an adult, they have the right to know what happened to their mom. I agree. I agree. But, with that... I mean, I just can't imagine growing up my entire life and not knowing what happened to my mom. Where did my mom go? Did my mom leave because... And why did she leave me behind?
[01:14:41] Or did she not leave of her own accord? You know, maybe... Yeah. No? There's just too many unanswered questions. And I would really love to see this get it solved and we figure out what happened to her. Well, get to feeling better. How's foot recovery going? It's going great. I actually... I think I'm going to plan to be on air tomorrow. Yay! Yay! Come on, come on. I think I'm going to...
[01:15:09] I've been waiting for you to, like, bust out and let me know when you're ready. So... So, I am not taking any pain meds except for my normal nighttime pain meds. But I'm not taking any pain meds for my foot. That's great. This Saturday afternoon. Okay. So, it's fine. I'm now at the annoyed stage. Yeah. Because I'm highly claustrophobic. Yes, she is. So this group is driving me crazy.
[01:15:36] I've actually had to take it off and let me just rest with my foot up and not walking on it. Yeah. And I lost a spoon in the boot yesterday. I went... It was scratching. It's an awful one. I stuck a spoon in there and scratched it. I lost a spoon. Bless your heart. I'm taking for a spoon. Well... All things considered, it's doing great. And I'm going to tell you, it already feels better than it's felt in two years.
[01:16:04] So, this discomfort that I have now is much more manageable than what I've been dealing with the past two years with this. So... Go ahead. Sorry. I'm grateful for the doctors that got above and beyond. They were incredible. Awesome. Well, we will call you after the show, okay? Okay. Sounds good. All right. Talk to you later. Bye. Bye. With that said, that is our very own Melody Krim.
[01:16:30] She has been one of the biggest alliances. Is that the best? Allies that I have had on this show. And, you know, she's been one of my biggest supporters. My sister from another mister. Is that how you say that, I guess? There are a lot of adjectives that we could use to describe Melody, but loyal is one of the greatest ones. And so, thank you, Melody. She may not be your cup of tea, but she's loyal to a tea. Yeah. I just want y'all to know that. She'll go down and swing it for sure. Yes, she will.
[01:17:00] But, you know, I always want to end on good stuff, but there has been so many. I want to say I'm sorry. There's been so many. And I know you said some of my message, which we should definitely end on that if it's positive. Oh, yeah. Good. But one of the biggest things during, which I just thought it's crazy, on one end of the spectrum, which you're living in Tennessee, we had the winter weather watch or weather warning and the snow came through.
[01:17:26] And then the unfortunate, at the same time I say that, on the, would that be the east or the west coast? The west coast. The left side of the country. The left side of the country. The left coast. The west coast. Is getting hit with all, in the California area, unfortunately, these fires. Yeah. The greater Los Angeles area is really suffering. It is. And you see it on the news, especially on the national news. Yeah. People are talking about it.
[01:17:54] And it involves a lot of celebrities on top of everything. Yeah. Guys, that area of Orange County is the largest, is the largest land mass as far as like population wise, it's bigger than New York City as far as the land mass. So we're talking about a lot of people concentrated in a huge area that is on fire. Yeah. And if you're watching, whether it's on Fox News or Joe Rogan or anything like that, you
[01:18:22] can see that the devastation it's causing in the negative. There's so much negative going on with this wildfire in response. And people are wanting to point fingers like, who's the blame? And that's always how it normally is. And, you know, there is a lot of conspiracy theories going out and a lot of, with the word that I'm looking up, negligence, that people are also throwing out as well.
[01:18:47] And we're wondering, what do you think is the, you know, what do you, what is your reason to think the fire or the wildfires have started? But of course, Newsom was on, everybody's on something right now. But Newsom responds to those angry over the wildfire responses by pointing fingers at local leaders. And, you know, and that's just one of the many stories I caught the other day.
[01:19:12] But I also was watching on the news when, and I apologize right now, I didn't have to write this down. There was, I want to say, was it the mayor? Yes. Was doing the interview. And then a, one of the victims. Oh, no, that was Gavin Newsom. Okay. That was Gavin Newsom. I cannot remember. What's interesting about the mayor, you brought the mayor. The mayor was actually in Africa. Yes. He was in Ghana, Africa. Not even there. So not even in the United States.
[01:19:41] And again, maybe that was a coincidence. Maybe not. But we don't know. And that's what people are saying. They said some kids started it. Again, we don't know. And that's for Melody. Again, there's so many things people are saying. It got started. It got continued. I also heard that people were asked to evacuate. As of right now, as of yesterday, because I heard this on the news yesterday, 16 people have been confirmed dead.
[01:20:09] 16 people are severely injured. And there's still several, several reports of people missing. There's not even a number that they're giving out. And there were several people as well that refused to leave their home and actually was successful in saving their area. Like they kept continuously pouring water around their home and things.
[01:20:35] And I've heard that the big thing, which was confirmed, insurance companies months prior to this incident dropped the, and I'm not an insurance person. So, and we probably should have got somebody in here. I might get Lee Holland to come on in the show to explain this a little bit better. But I don't think we have fire insurance with our home.
[01:20:58] But a lot of the big insurance companies in the California area dropped the fire insurance. Like took it off the plant. And so I think that's kind of what stirred up the pointing fingers and the negative condensation. I really, I feel like that's what's like, why would you drop it? And then months later, and this is not the first time a fire like this has happened in
[01:21:25] that area, you know, and it just, it just brings up a lot of points. What do you think, Brian? Well, there's all kinds of things that are going on and everybody, there's a lot of conjecture. Everybody wants to blame somebody else for this. Ultimately, the people who are in charge out there, which should be their government, their state government and their city government should take accountability for this. What's really interesting is that you can look back at former Joe Rogan podcasts where
[01:21:53] he talks about wanting to leave because they knew that this area, and they've had forest fires. It's nothing new for California to have forest fires. But, and that's one of the things, and that's one of the things that the Trump administration talked about back when he was in office, his 45, is about the irresponsibility of some of their priorities in California. And it shouldn't be a blame game right now. It should be a prayer game.
[01:22:22] We should be praying for these people ultimately because that's what we're called to do. And I know that I've got friends in the California area that are taking donations and wanting to make sure that these people get the things that they need. I mean, guys, it's as devastating as the floods that we had in East Tennessee and North Carolina. Yeah, the Nashville floods that we had. But this is a greater amount of people in a concentrated area. So there are a lot of people that are hurting right now.
[01:22:52] It's not just common folk like me and Brian. And everybody, Mel Gibson. I saw this morning a thread where Jennifer Gardner also got affected and she's helping out volunteers. I saw that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle made appearances as well, you know, consulting and, you know, in Pasadena, giving people hugs and things like that.
[01:23:17] I saw a woman and I can't think of her name, but she lived in one of the really high stakes of apartments and she went back to get her cat. And you could just see the, she said, you can feel and you can see the fire coming up over the ridge. I've seen just like when we got the fire that happened in Gatlinburg in the Smokies. Oh, yeah. That, you know, how animals, how, I think it's just how crazy and how sad.
[01:23:45] And it also, for me, it was like a for real moment when you see animals going to people to get rescued. Foxes, all types of wildlife coming to the rescue to just get out of these forest, or I say forest fires, out of these wildfires. And if this is like Melody was saying, if this was started, whether it was by kids or somebody,
[01:24:12] because it was negligence at this point, you know, as well as I do guys, they're going to get reprimanded. The culprits are going to be found and things are going to get, because I just, for somebody to start a fire like that makes me, what's going through your mind, if that's the truth. But if this was a natural thing that happens, which is common too, that, you know, let's
[01:24:39] just find out before we start pointing the blame game on somebody, let's let the, I like just like with the DA stuff and everything else, I go back to this. We have to let the officials and the leaders and the government do what they're, their due diligence and do their job and let them do it. And I hope and pray that they're doing it honestly and truthfully. Yeah. One of the things, and I, I'm sorry, I keep looking over here at X. No, you're fine.
[01:25:09] One of the, one of the things that I do to follow national media and looking at the AP Associated Press and seeing what's going on with them, if they have anything current that's out. But yeah, there's, there's so many stories that are going on around the world. But this, the California forest fires, after making some progress battling wildfires that destroyed thousands of homes and killed at least, and the APU is reporting 24 people
[01:25:35] in the Los Angeles area, firefighters are preparing to return for a return of dangerous winds that could stoke these flames up again. So yeah, be praying for these firefighters that are working so hard to manage these forest fires. We're very blessed to live in a part of the world where we don't necessarily have to worry about those kinds of issues, but we want to make sure that, that you know what's going on and that we address these kinds of things because they are happening. And there's probably people in our community.
[01:26:05] I know that I've got a family that live in that area and, and then all their friends and all the people they're connected to. So there's not very many degrees of separation between us here in Warren County and the people there in Orange County and the greater Los Angeles area. And you know, Kat, since we're talking about, you know, destruction in communities, just like Melody did say, because I have got confirmation through somebody that lives out there, my brother in law, you know, we were talking when she was on the show with us a few weeks ago about
[01:26:35] they're still doing detours through places and communities. And you can see the pileups of trash and homes. And when I say, like we said, it was trash. It wasn't normal trash. Like, you know, our cans and things, this is like people's homes, their things. That are ruined because of the, because of destruction from whatever the case may be. And he also said the same thing. There's, there's certain places everywhere. People are camping out on their properties because they want to rebuild.
[01:27:04] They want to start over. And it just sad. It saddens me because he has said that since they were going strong for, I think he said two to three and a half, maybe four months. And then it just kind of starts slowing down. It's not as heavy. They are still, people in the East Tissey area still need our help. I want you guys to know it because unfortunately when it happens the first, when it first happens like today, that's what's relevant. That's what's new, but it should stay relevant.
[01:27:34] Before you stop serving a community, you need to make sure that community has been served and they don't need any more help. Yeah, this, it's going to go in phases and a lot of the initial needs have been met, but then we go into the rebuilding phase. Yeah. And because at first we're in the survival phase, we're just trying to survive. So yes, Melanie brings up a good point. We do need to continue to do what we can to support.
[01:27:59] And if you guys know of anybody here locally, that's delivering goods and different services to our good friends and neighbors in the Eastern part of the state, Western North Carolina, please let us know. We want to send them a shout out and we want to send their information out so you too can make sure that you get your goods and services into the right hand so they can get to the people who need it the most. So please go ahead and let us know either on air or off air. Send us a message or what's the telephone number again?
[01:28:29] 931-305-0869. I've got to do that. Kelly says it so quickly and does such a wonderful job. You get used to it after a while, you know. But, you know, going on with the conversation about the fires that are going on in Pasadena, Rifa is actually responding to Melody saying they are also trying to blame low water pressure on hydrants on low water levels and where they are, where they get the water from that supply the hydrants. And again, this is all, it's all coming from everywhere.
[01:28:59] So again, I always tell everybody before we jump down the rabbit hole, make sure, you know, you double, double, double, triple, triple, quadruple check. But again, I do know when this is all said and done, they are going to blame somebody or something for it. Yeah, history will always let you know whose fault it was. And so we'll find out in the future. But for right now, thoughts and prayers going out to the people of the greater Los Angeles
[01:29:26] area and our good friends in East Tennessee and North Carolina, you know, with Nashville. I was living in Nashville when the floods hit. I guess it was 2008, 2009, 2008. I was there. And yeah, it was sad to see a lot of the damage that happened. But one of the beautiful things about Tennessee and the people of Tennessee, and yes, we are in the Bible Belt and that counts a lot. It does. So we came back strong, even stronger in a lot of cases.
[01:29:55] And it was nice to see neighbors helping each other. And I'm a firm believer that God's will is greater than our understanding. So whenever things happen and we think of them as bad things, God can always turn them into good things. So yes, just continue to keep that faith and pray for these folks. And with that said, you know, I want to like just reiterate while you're looking up our last positive thing sent by Miss Jamie Jaco, I believe. I want everybody to know that we are having a, and I want to post this up.
[01:30:24] I think I did have a picture of it. Well, you know, it's just this one, but you know what? We're just going to post this up. So right here in the right-hand corner is an invitation to you are invited to the big one-year celebration happening this Friday at the community room at the Chamber of Commerce from 830 to 130. We are literally going to be broadcasting from 830 to 130. And every 30 minutes, we're going to have somebody new on is the end game.
[01:30:53] And right now I have, as I say, my dance card is half full, which I'm so excited. But please, please, if you would like to come on the show and even talk about what's going on in your life, on your world, in your business, that is what it's all about for the in-between fillers and more. Because if you want to come on the show and talk about how Warren First has helped you, or if you just want to come on the show and talk about what your business is happening,
[01:31:20] we do have some people that have messaged me that are opening up new businesses. So if you are new to this community and you want to get on the show, this is going to be a prime time to get on because it's going to be a big bash. And I go big or go home. That's my rule of thumb. And there's just so many things we're saving for Friday's show that I just, I can't, I want to say it now, but I can't. I can't. It's killing me.
[01:31:48] But please do that. And thanks to my mom, Sharon Walker, for hooking us up with the refreshments and things like that. She always has been one. She is the biggest supporter on my team because if you don't have family support, you know, where's the foundation? So I have to give a shout out to my family. I'm going to be thanking everybody all week long and then some. But with that said, again, follow us on our text club if you want to, you know, be a part of it.
[01:32:17] Text the keyword at Warren 931-281010. That's the remind app. We are going to be finishing up on the newsletter today. So they'll be ready for you tomorrow, wherever you're at. If you're not a part of that and you want to send a digital copy emailed to you, which I just realized last night, I did not send the last week's digital copy. So they're going to get a dose newsletter this week. So I apologize.
[01:32:45] But if you want to join the 80 plus digital copies that get sent out each week, you can join that by texting the keyword local voice to 931, which is right there on our scrolling bar. If you haven't seen it, it's 931-305-0869. And you will get a once a week, every Monday and Tuesday, a digital copy of the newsletter will be emailed to you. But with that said, courtesy of Jamie Jaco, let's go. Yes.
[01:33:13] So the heading that says, I ran across this and it made me hope every child does get this. Okay. And this is about time. Okay. There are nine minutes during the day that have the greatest impact on a child. The first three minutes right after they wake up. The three minutes after they come home from school. The last three minutes of the day before they go to bed. Make those minutes special and help our children feel special, loved, and accepted.
[01:33:41] Each day, children need meaningful eye-to-eye conversations with a parent. It is especially important to slow down and look them in the eye. Listen and respond with love. Hug your child. Straighten her hair. Pat him on the back and tell him how proud you are of him every day. A simple touch makes them feel connected to a parent in ways that words never will. Remember, actions speak louder than words.
[01:34:08] And I find this very coincidental and there are no coincidences, I'm sure of that. But being able to hug somebody. Mid, pray for your wives. Wives, pray for your husbands. And give each other a 20-second hug. That reduces oxytocin in the brain. And that's a good, yes. And that builds connection. Do the same thing with your children. More than six seconds. You've got to give them a hug or a kiss. Greater than six seconds.
[01:34:35] Whenever you do these things, it stimulates a hormone release within the brain. Guys, it's proven. And the thing is, we need to love each other. Especially with our families. Because if you don't have family, just like what you were talking about, Ms. Sharon, you don't know where you'd be. So guys, I encourage you this week to love one another. We've got a great show lined up for tomorrow. Also, our Friday show. But this time next week, everybody's going to be out of school again. Why? We've got the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. Oh, that's right.
[01:35:05] So another four-day week next week. And on top of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, we have the inauguration going on. We do. We do. I will not be here. We do have a lot. I'll be out of town next Monday. I'll be in Gatlinburg for the Street to Stand Conference. But I'm sure Kelly and the team. Me and Melody will hold it down if she's still good. You guys will be just fine. There will be a lot to talk about. But we've got a lot of good things to talk about. We've got a lot of good guests to talk about.
[01:35:34] And we're excited for upcoming shows. And Friday, it's going to be awesome. That's right. And somebody just mentioned, will Brian Carr give hugs like his daddy, Bruce? And I'm so grateful for him and his service as well as Christian example. His dad would be so proud. Guys, if you never knew my dad, he was such a blessing. And if you guys ever get the chance to know my mother, you'll see why she was his North Star. So guys, I hope you enjoy this week.
[01:36:03] I hope you enjoy the day off, teachers and students and everybody who's got the day off. Yes. Yes. General courts. Yeah, general courts. All you guys. And it's so funny that we talk about daddies because we celebrated my dad in heaven yesterday. It was his 70th birthday. And if my mom is watching, me and her both were thinking I had to yesterday when we were eating supper in his memory. We were like, God, dad at 70? Because my dad, my parents do not look like their age. They just don't. They look younger.
[01:36:33] And I go, that's the good gene. That's the good gene. But with that said, you know, yesterday was a tough time for all of us. But at the same time, it's also a blessing because of the staple that he or the example, like they were saying about your dad, the example that your father puts on your life as a parent.
[01:36:54] You know, especially with the situation of the loss of a 16-year-old gentleman the other day because Sunday was actually his funeral and service too. And I want to say this. As parents, we have an obligation when we bring humans into this world. We do not need to let the teachers be the only one helping them, teachers and coaches be the only person in their lives to show them how to be an adult. We as parents take that role as well.
[01:37:23] And if you do not take that seriously, you need to go be like, check yourself, as I say. And, you know, be that parent. Do those suggestions that Brian said because you never know what a hug, what a three-minute conversation or even just a hi-howdy-ho, you know, would do to your child. How it can change their ways. You've got to stay connected.
[01:37:46] And by showing your children that you love them, taking just that nine minutes, nine minutes a day, they're worth way more than that. Thank you, Ms. Aretha, for that. Yes, I have a wonderful family. I've been very blessed. And so has Kelly. She's got a wonderful family. And not everybody gets that. And so we want to be your family here on Warren First. Do the best we can to help and love each other in this community. We're very blessed to live here in Warren County.
[01:38:13] Oh, yes, they said Donna Carr is a North Star. God love it. Don't you just love that when you hear that about your parents? I'm trying to hold back tears because I know how blessed I am. Same way, same way. But with that said, take care. God bless. Enjoy the rest of your Monday. It's time for us to get off here because I'm smelling food and getting hungry all at the same time. But take care. God bless. And remember, Warren County, keep it fun.
