Warren First 931: Your local hub for all things community!

[00:00:37] Hey, hey, Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays here from Warren First 931. I'm your host of the show, Kelly Walker-Slaughter. Hope each and every one of you guys are having a blessed morning. I know that the sun isn't out and, you know, it's been raining, that nasty old rain that nobody likes, including myself. But again, that it's just what it is. And sometimes the doctor needs, you know, when the doctor calls for rain, we need to like do it because the plants out there are getting dehydrated.

[00:01:07] But with that said, speaking of our weather and our weather is always being brought to you by Riddick Brown Ford here in the McMinnville-Morrison area with all your needs. Currently right now in downtown McMinnville, we are 56 degrees. It's going to be mostly cloudy with a low of 55 but a high of 61. Also, the cloudy conditions will continue all day. Wind gusts are going to be up to about 10 miles per hour.

[00:01:33] But right now it feels like 56 and hopefully by, I'm trying to see the other times, by the highest it's going to get by 4 p.m. before the sun starts really going down is 60 degrees. So enjoy it while you can. In the sun setting currently right now around 430, 432-ish.

[00:01:52] But with that said, today it's just going to be low, like I said, 55 degrees. And then the high today is 61. Wednesday, tomorrow, there is still 85% chance of this rain still continuing on for tomorrow.

[00:02:06] And with that said, the low of 40 and a high of 63. Thursday, partly cloudy with a lot more sun. No chances of rain right now with a low of 35, high 51. Friday, it's going to be cloudy with a low of 30 and a high of 42.

[00:02:22] And then on Saturday and Sunday, I'm going to tag team these up. It's going to be in the low 20s, mid 20s. And it's going to be in the high of the early 40s.

[00:02:35] So again, it looks like, you know, we're having that topsy-turvy weather and always when the snow or when we talk about snow and rain and things, rain and the wind is bringing that cold front in.

[00:02:48] Because I was trying to look up last night on our, the weather app to see if there was anything else going on that. Let me see on my other, on my radar.

[00:03:03] Let's see. It's got a good, yeah, right now we have a huge overcast. And then see here, I was trying to see. Nope. Can that go up? No, you click on it.

[00:03:26] Yeah, tomorrow it's still calling for rain showers on here. Thursday, we're going to have some sun, not much, but a little bit. Friday, cloudy. Saturday and Sunday and Monday, sunny.

[00:03:38] Yeah, I was trying to see when they're predicting maybe potential chances of, um, potential chances of snow, but nobody's reporting that right now.

[00:03:50] Also, uh, there's so many things going on right now. First off, uh, yesterday, if no one's seen it on, and we did post it on our Facebook page, because I always want to keep you guys in the know.

[00:04:00] And we don't post about it unless we know it's factual.

[00:04:04] So, uh, with that said, you know, continuing on, um, you know, about a month ago, we did report about, you know, the, um, the, the shooter, you know, in Smithville and all the craziness with the triple murder, homicide, all that stuff.

[00:04:19] So, with that said, um, continuing on with that, because last we heard that the TBI was unfortunately investigating our, uh, DA, uh, Chris, uh, Stanford.

[00:04:33] And then two, uh, posts were made yesterday about it, uh, because it was breaking news.

[00:04:40] WJLA, which is the, um, Smithville radio station, posted a story, broke the story first by stating that, you know, the Warren County, uh, district attorney has been indicted in shots fired incident last month in Smithville.

[00:04:56] And then, of course, he did do the interview.

[00:05:00] And I apologize if I get this, um, name, you know, I can't pronounce names that great, but Nick Braeas, uh, or Braeas with News Channel 5 did an interview with him and, um, um, district attorney, uh, Stanford.

[00:05:15] He made a list of answering all these questions, but then, like he said, uh, on his post, if you did not read it, he said, update, a key question is, I'm looking into here is what happened to the criminal cases.

[00:05:29] Is, you know, that Stanford is prosecuting because right now, now that he's been indicted, his, um, uh, the hearing is set.

[00:05:37] I think they said January, let me say, I think it was the seventh, the seventh or the ninth.

[00:05:44] It was either a Tuesday or Thursday.

[00:05:46] Um, but he did turn himself in, you know, they didn't have to find him.

[00:05:50] He turned himself in and then he, uh, posted bond for, uh, $10,000.

[00:05:56] But if you read through it, what the, um, what has been released, um, through, um, on the Smithville side, because that's where we're getting all this information from, of course.

[00:06:07] Um, right now, the grand jury issued a true bill of indictment charging Stanford with reckless endangerment, which is a class C felony.

[00:06:18] And so he did, like I said, he turned himself in, into the DeKalb County Sheriff's Court Office.

[00:06:26] And, um, it goes into it.

[00:06:28] You will recall that the shots fired incident happened last month during the pursuit of the triple murder suspect out of Warren County, where Stanford is sitting as our district attorney.

[00:06:39] At the time, Stanford told me, and this is what Nick Boreas is saying, at the time, Stanford told me he felt he and others were at risk during the confrontation.

[00:06:50] But, um, he was the only person, officer or otherwise, who fired a weapon.

[00:06:57] Also, there is a video of what happened that apparently contradicts his story.

[00:07:03] Now, saying that, we just have to wait and see this out.

[00:07:09] Um, I hope that, you know, there is some good in this.

[00:07:13] But, you know, if somebody done wrong, whether Tim or whoever, you know, you know, you, you, you gotta know.

[00:07:21] So, but I, we're going to send out our prayers to everybody that's involved in this.

[00:07:27] And we hope that, you know, everything, you know, things get handled and taken care of properly and correctly.

[00:07:36] Um, and as it goes on, Smithfield, let's see.

[00:07:41] Smithfield, during the apprehension of the three suspects in Warren County's triple homicide last month, Stanford turned himself in this morning as he has posted a $10,000 bond.

[00:07:52] And he will make an appearance, yeah, that's, I was right, in the DeKalb County General Sessions Court on January the 7th.

[00:08:00] So, more to come because we all knew last that we spoke about this, that he was under investigation with the TBI.

[00:08:07] So, again, we have to let the court system and the police departments and the TBI to do their process.

[00:08:14] And we just have to wait and see now.

[00:08:16] Um, but that is all that has been let out about their, so we heard, and the biggest thing is, I think that's on everybody's mind, is what's on the tape.

[00:08:28] And if, if Stafford is, that he, the statements that he has made to everybody, um, if, you know, we'll find out if they're true or not.

[00:08:38] Um, but we have to wait and see, and the next wait, wait and see will be on January the 7th.

[00:08:43] So, and I don't know if they're going to let us in.

[00:08:47] Uh, I don't know how all that works.

[00:08:49] That's something new.

[00:08:50] I was going to talk to Melody about if that's something she wants to get into.

[00:08:53] But we didn't, if you want to read the News Channel 2 story, as well as the, uh, Smithfield radio station from WJLE,

[00:09:02] you can go on our Facebook and Instagram page and see that as well.

[00:09:08] Um, this was posted yesterday, which I thought was really neat.

[00:09:12] So, of course, Raven Young is, is re, um, fixing all the, um, she's refixing the downtown buildings right above Begonias and such.

[00:09:23] Um, and they made this post yesterday and it's, um, while not exactly an old house, it is an old building that is currently home to six commercial businesses.

[00:09:35] And will soon be home to 10 residential apartments.

[00:09:38] Cause that's the goal is to, you know, renovate that and make it last even 20 more years longer.

[00:09:44] Right.

[00:09:45] And it's going to be located right here in downtown historic, um, district of McMinnville.

[00:09:50] Um, Raven was talking about how they started renovating the first floor of the building back in 2020.

[00:09:56] And then in 2023 started the second and third floor, um, renovations.

[00:10:03] The second and third floors are complete.

[00:10:06] We'll have 10 residential apartments with private parking and elevator access.

[00:10:11] You can see a couple before and after pictures of the front and the rear, um, facades.

[00:10:18] The exterior has been a dramatic transformation with the installation of new windows doors and Juliet balconies.

[00:10:26] Cause of course you can see those as you go out, which are beautiful.

[00:10:32] Um, the current building is actually made up of three buildings.

[00:10:36] They were built in 1881, 1902 and the 1960s, which that is so neat.

[00:10:44] The original facade of the building was refaced around the sixties and closed up many window openings.

[00:10:52] The current facade is not exact, but it is closer representation of the risen original historic look of it, which is so cool.

[00:11:03] Um, and she posted, if you're interested in the remodel process or would like to, uh, learn some history about the property,

[00:11:11] you can follow along with a renovation on YouTube at Raven Young Designs.

[00:11:17] And she's got the link and everything in there, but if you want, you can actually go to our Facebook page.

[00:11:23] Cause we did share that yesterday.

[00:11:28] Um, if you are looking for Christmas presents and more, which reminds me, I knew I forgot something this morning.

[00:11:36] Hold on.

[00:11:38] Hold on.

[00:11:39] And I do apologize cause my throat started acting up again and I started coughing yesterday.

[00:11:44] It was a whole thing.

[00:11:47] Hmm.

[00:11:51] Let's see.

[00:11:54] Not now.

[00:11:56] Here we go.

[00:11:59] But I do have some exciting news, of course, because I want to make sure to play this for you guys.

[00:12:09] Okay.

[00:12:12] Download anyways.

[00:12:14] Um, it was so neat to, uh, be where I love working with Jonathan Womack and, uh, community TV TN and all that he does.

[00:12:23] Um, but, um, you know, sometimes I can't go to all the video interviews and I think he, and I think it was Miss Jenny, uh, Jacobs.

[00:12:31] She is, um, she's working with us now.

[00:12:35] I want to make sure.

[00:12:37] Where's this at?

[00:12:40] Show me where folder you put it in.

[00:12:42] Okay.

[00:12:43] Uh, but with that said, she did the interviewing with Miss Francis there, uh, here on downtown.

[00:12:48] Miss Francis runs the, um, antique store.

[00:12:52] Sweet old lady.

[00:12:53] I love her to death.

[00:12:54] Um, I see her every day, uh, once a week at least, um, for sure is what I try to do.

[00:13:00] Uh, but with that said, she has a phenomenal shop of antiques.

[00:13:03] And if you have not been a part of that or seen that, you need to.

[00:13:13] Okay.

[00:13:15] Saying that my buddy has invalid.

[00:13:20] Six minutes.

[00:13:28] That is not going to work.

[00:13:30] Hmm.

[00:13:32] Well, I have to contact them later.

[00:13:34] But with that said, if I can't get this video playing on my podcast today, I will be putting

[00:13:38] it on, uh, my social media right now as I talk to you guys.

[00:13:43] But again, she has a phenomenal antique store that people from everywhere come and see.

[00:13:49] And right now she's got all her beautiful Christmas trees up and more.

[00:13:53] And I'm telling you, if you have not been in there to see the magnificent, um, beautiful

[00:14:00] trees decorated throughout the entire building, you need to see it.

[00:14:04] It's called, the store is called the Vintage Market on Main.

[00:14:08] And if you haven't been there, if you, you know, they got beds, they got cabinet trees,

[00:14:13] they have, um, they have everything you need and more if you're looking for that, you know,

[00:14:18] authentic, um, that vintage touch.

[00:14:21] And they even have beds in there.

[00:14:23] They have pictures.

[00:14:24] They have an assortment of goodies in there.

[00:14:27] And I do know that they also have in there, which I thought was hysterical, but it is for

[00:14:32] sale.

[00:14:32] If you are looking for a Grinch costume, they even have a Grinch costume in there for

[00:14:37] sale with the mannequin and everything.

[00:14:39] So if you don't want to put it on and you just want to keep it on the mannequin, you

[00:14:44] can do that as well as I'm also people watching.

[00:14:47] Sorry, I'm a squirrel.

[00:14:49] I see something.

[00:14:49] I gotta look at it.

[00:14:50] Uh, let's see here.

[00:14:54] Check out this video.

[00:14:57] It's not letting me post the video on, um, here like I thought it would because last night

[00:15:03] it was working.

[00:15:04] But when I set up a new video thing, it, no, it acts up.

[00:15:08] So with that said, um, this is a video that community TV team put with our very own Jenny

[00:15:16] Jacobs.

[00:15:17] And it's a video of the vintage market on Maine.

[00:15:24] And I want you guys to check it out because it's just phenomenal.

[00:15:28] And if you haven't ever been in there, you need to go in there because it's just, it's beautiful.

[00:15:34] Uh, I'm going to show you.

[00:15:34] Because I'm going to share it now.

[00:15:36] So everybody can see it since it's not letting me do the other.

[00:15:40] Uh, also we posted this earlier the other day.

[00:15:43] We wanted to, uh, we posted earlier about a firefighter fatality at the city of Chattanooga fire department.

[00:15:50] Several people reached out asking what happened to the Chattanooga fire.

[00:15:54] Um, Chattanooga fire released this statement this morning and you can read it.

[00:15:58] It goes into what happened at the Chattanooga fire department.

[00:16:03] It is just, it is so sad.

[00:16:05] It is so unfortunate because we just talked about, you know, the, uh, incident in, um, the Murphsboro area with that fire department.

[00:16:15] And right now it does seem like fires are a common thing right now happening in the coldest of times.

[00:16:22] So again, be cautious when, you know, think about Smokey the Bear when he was taught us about don't play

[00:16:28] with matches.

[00:16:29] Um, be cautious, be careful, be safe when you start a fire.

[00:16:34] You never know how bad it can be.

[00:16:36] Also, uh, we did share this the other day because this was going on in downtown.

[00:16:42] Oh, where was this at?

[00:16:44] Um, hold on.

[00:16:48] Where was this at?

[00:16:48] Uh, a car soars over a roundabout and crashes into businesses.

[00:16:55] And I want to say that was nearby us and they got it caught all on film.

[00:16:59] Um, if you click the play button, you're going to see this.

[00:17:02] Like this guy's just trying to break records.

[00:17:05] It's crazy.

[00:17:06] Um, but with that said, in school news, of course, tonight it is, uh, the Warren County is playing

[00:17:14] Seagull, uh, at the Dalt.

[00:17:17] It's a home game.

[00:17:18] And of course, make sure you make plans to go out there.

[00:17:20] And, um, I'm sharing this post from Chris Cope because it says one lucky fan will be randomly

[00:17:26] picked to try to win a hundred dollars in cash.

[00:17:29] And this is being sponsored by Chris Springs fireworks.

[00:17:33] So make plans and come out tonight for the game at 6 PM.

[00:17:37] With that said, um, it's a make three and win.

[00:17:43] It's tonight against the Pioneers and Seagull.

[00:17:47] If you, it says make a layup, free, uh, free throw shot and a three pointer in 30 seconds,

[00:17:54] and you will win a hundred dollars in cash.

[00:17:59] I don't know if you have to do that in order, but if you plan it right to me, I would do

[00:18:06] the foul shot to the layup.

[00:18:10] All right.

[00:18:11] Yeah.

[00:18:11] Maybe.

[00:18:12] Well, yeah.

[00:18:13] Foul shot lay.

[00:18:14] I don't know.

[00:18:15] How would y'all do that?

[00:18:16] Foul shot layup Lebanon.

[00:18:18] Thank you, Aretha.

[00:18:19] It didn't have it on here.

[00:18:20] Uh, but yeah, that, uh, news channel two thing or news channel five.

[00:18:24] I told you about where you could see the car soaring that was in Lebanon, just near

[00:18:28] right next near to us.

[00:18:30] Also, I'm going to make a phone call today.

[00:18:33] The whale, uh, posted this the other day.

[00:18:36] If you want to meet the owner, which I've known him ever since, you know, uh, sophomore,

[00:18:41] junior year of math class.

[00:18:42] Uh, but Keville Sheath is the proud owner of the well at tree city, a McMinnville native

[00:18:47] who's passionate about his hometown growth and vibrance.

[00:18:51] Keville wanted to create a place where both locals and tourists could experience, um, an

[00:18:57] elevated cocktail lounge right here in the heart of McMinnville, which is really neat.

[00:19:03] Inspired by the town's thriving community, he saw the opportunity to offer a big city bar

[00:19:08] experience without the need to drive to larger towns, which I think is phenomenal.

[00:19:12] With the whale, Keville brings a space for everyone, whether a local resident or just a

[00:19:18] visitor can come together and enjoy expertly crafted cocktails in an atmosphere that celebrates

[00:19:24] the spirit of McMinnville.

[00:19:25] He's proud to be a part of this town's growth, ensuring that this vibrant community has a

[00:19:30] sophisticated spot to unwind, socialize and enjoy great drinks.

[00:19:35] And I'm going to talk to him today, um, after the show, because I'm going to get with him

[00:19:39] and we may actually be trying to do a live pop in podcast there.

[00:19:43] Um, so you can, guys, we can talk about the experience, talk to some of the, you know,

[00:19:48] the bartenders there or the, you know, the mixologist, I should say out there.

[00:19:52] I think it's going to be a real good time.

[00:19:54] And another cool thing while I got you guys is that on Monday morning show, I'm going

[00:20:00] to have the one and only cousin Eddie is going to come in here and do an interview with me.

[00:20:06] Warren first, Kelly Walker slaughter here.

[00:20:08] And I am so looking forward to it because if you don't know who national lampoons are

[00:20:14] and they're, you know, Christmas vacation, you know, cousin Eddie is just one of the

[00:20:18] many characters in the show that makes this movie.

[00:20:22] And we have somebody here and I'm just going to give a shout out to Chris Terry that, um,

[00:20:28] comes down here each year during the holiday time and sets up his RV and dresses like cousin

[00:20:33] Eddie and does his thing.

[00:20:35] And I'm telling you, it's going to be so phenomenal.

[00:20:40] I talked to him yesterday before he got on an airplane and, uh, he will be back sometime.

[00:20:44] Uh, I think he said over the weekend, I can't remember exactly, but he is going to come on

[00:20:49] our show Monday morning at nine o'clock here at Top's Rose and Yogurt and Metro Deli.

[00:20:54] It's going to be a phenomenal time.

[00:20:56] And I just think, you know, it's, it's Christmas time.

[00:21:00] And if you don't like watching those nostalgia movies and things like that, make it a tradition.

[00:21:05] That's one of the many traditions we do at my house.

[00:21:08] We love doing it.

[00:21:09] You know, my brother and my mom, um, when they were at the tree house over the weekend,

[00:21:13] I think he said, um, they started watching some old classic movies.

[00:21:17] And one of theirs was, um, Ernest Saves Christmas.

[00:21:21] And if you don't know who Ernest is, you're missing out.

[00:21:25] You need to check it out.

[00:21:27] And what are some family traditions while I got the four of you on watching me today?

[00:21:31] What are some of the family traditions that you do that you would like to share on the show?

[00:21:37] I would love to share them this morning and I'm going to make a post about it right now.

[00:21:44] What are some family traditions you do?

[00:21:54] Because we do a lot at my house.

[00:21:56] We do like a cousin's Christmas.

[00:21:58] We do that, um, every night before, um, um, Christmas, you know, before we go to bed for Christmas Eve,

[00:22:05] we make the cookies together.

[00:22:07] We play old games together.

[00:22:08] We do like Scrabble and Monopoly and, uh, Clue.

[00:22:12] Clue and Uno are the two biggest ones that we play at the house.

[00:22:16] But the other games we play at my house too are things like, um, we do, uh, Phase 10.

[00:22:22] We just do a lot of the old nostalgia games.

[00:22:25] Candyland.

[00:22:26] We have played an assortment of different types of games there.

[00:22:29] Sorry.

[00:22:31] Uh, Trouble.

[00:22:32] Um, oh, Twister.

[00:22:34] We did that one time.

[00:22:36] But, you know, the big thing is for us at Christmas, that is a big family tradition,

[00:22:40] is just being together.

[00:22:41] I think we've said that a million times, but showing your children how important family is,

[00:22:49] is very pivotal in their growth and in their, you know, as they become adults.

[00:22:54] Because you're, you're teaching them how to be adults.

[00:22:56] And if they don't see you hanging out with family members during their, you know, between

[00:23:01] birth and 13, do you think they're going to want to hang out with their family members?

[00:23:06] No, they're not.

[00:23:08] So when, uh, when they get older, they're not going to want to do it.

[00:23:11] Because once you, once we pass on, they have to do what we instill, I hope that my child

[00:23:16] does what I instill in him as he gets older.

[00:23:19] Um, but again, that is our job as adults is to raise our children, to show them how to

[00:23:26] become amazing adults.

[00:23:29] And Christmas is one of them.

[00:23:31] And it's like me and Santa was talking about, uh, last week, uh, is, you know, why, why is

[00:23:38] Christmas at the end of the year?

[00:23:40] And it truly is at the end of the year because with all the crap we go through from January

[00:23:46] to November.

[00:23:48] Okay.

[00:23:49] We need to have a happy, calm period where we can just get together and let go of all

[00:23:57] that negativity and whatever's been bringing you down, whatever your burden has been.

[00:24:05] It should all come together in Christmas.

[00:24:08] And I know sometimes it's harder than others, depending on your situation.

[00:24:11] But the best thing I've always done is I pray about it.

[00:24:17] And then, you know, I think about it.

[00:24:19] And when I say, I think about it, I always check myself.

[00:24:21] I always say, don't always point the thing.

[00:24:24] If you're pointing the finger at somebody, there's three more fingers pointing back at

[00:24:28] you and you need to check yourself before you check somebody.

[00:24:33] Because sometimes you are in the wrong and it's okay to be in the wrong.

[00:24:37] Sometimes I always tell everybody that.

[00:24:40] But again, Christmas time, December, this is a time for you and your friends and your

[00:24:47] family to get together and let bygones be bygones and just have a good time.

[00:24:55] Laugh at jokes.

[00:24:57] Play catch up.

[00:24:59] You know, if y'all had a spat, play catch up with somebody that you haven't seen in a

[00:25:04] while so you can be like, you know, I miss this.

[00:25:07] I miss you.

[00:25:08] I hate when, you know, I don't get to see somebody during our Christmas time.

[00:25:14] And I've already missed a few folks and I don't know if I'm going to get to see them or not.

[00:25:19] Dwayne Ramsey posted.

[00:25:20] Thank you, Dwayne.

[00:25:21] He says they do gestures, charades, and the ball wrap game are all fun games that we play.

[00:25:29] But yeah, the ball wrap game can get a little dicey, literally, at our house.

[00:25:35] Because, you know, I don't know about you, Dwayne, but when y'all play, do y'all wear the mittens and everything?

[00:25:40] Because when you wear the mittens, good Lord, how hard is that to get that ball unwrapped?

[00:25:45] And then the other thing is, whoever does our ball, they wrap the money individually.

[00:25:53] And you have to like with those, it is just the hardest thing.

[00:25:57] So, anywho.

[00:25:59] But thank you for letting me know that, Dwayne.

[00:26:00] I really appreciate that.

[00:26:02] Appreciate that a lot.

[00:26:04] Continuing on, don't forget that the detention at the elementary has got its happenings and shenanigans.

[00:26:13] It says, you know, shop local this holiday season.

[00:26:16] You can do that with the detention at the elementary.

[00:26:19] They're offering a full restaurant, arcade, golf simulators, banquet halls, event venues, and more.

[00:26:26] It's the perfect place for fun and unique experiences with your loved ones.

[00:26:31] You can stop by during their hours.

[00:26:34] Thursdays is 11 to 9.

[00:26:36] Friday is 11 to 10.

[00:26:38] Saturday is 6 to 10.

[00:26:39] And Sundays is 6 to 8.

[00:26:41] And always say this, support local.

[00:26:45] And then by supporting local, you make lasting memories.

[00:26:50] It's just a good time.

[00:26:52] Don't forget McMinnville on Ice.

[00:26:54] That is being sponsored by Main Street Media.

[00:26:56] Because you don't have to pay.

[00:26:58] You just got to fill out that form so you don't, you know, insurance-wise.

[00:27:01] So no one gets hurt.

[00:27:02] But Monday through Thursday, you can do McMinnville on Ice from 5 to 8.

[00:27:12] On Friday nights, it's 5 to 9.

[00:27:15] Saturday, it's 2 to 8.

[00:27:17] And then Sunday, it is 2 to 6.

[00:27:21] So make sure you check that out and more.

[00:27:24] Let's go.

[00:27:25] I'll share that on there, too, on our Facebook page, in case you guys need to know as well.

[00:27:29] Well, and we talked about this.

[00:27:35] There is not, I'm trying to gather anything.

[00:27:38] For everybody that's watching, please tag somebody that's having a New Year's Eve party or something.

[00:27:42] That's a local business and more.

[00:27:44] We did find out, we talked about this yesterday, that the Park Theater is not going to do their New Year's Eve party.

[00:27:51] But Begonias is partnering up with The Well at Tree City Inn.

[00:27:56] And it says, our friends at Begonias will be open until 8 p.m.

[00:28:02] And then, and this is on December the 31st, to satisfy your appetite before coming to the celebration at The Well.

[00:28:13] And again, they're calling it Midnight at The Well.

[00:28:16] It says, join us after midnight at The Well and ring in the New Year with us.

[00:28:21] Tickets are on sale right now.

[00:28:23] And that's one thing me and Kevill are going to talk about today.

[00:28:28] And I just think it's a neat little thing.

[00:28:30] I love seeing, I told them this yesterday, I love seeing other businesses support other businesses.

[00:28:36] Instead of looking at it as like competition in a bad way, it's like, you know what, why don't we work together instead of against each other?

[00:28:44] I think having other people doing the same thing is a healthy competition.

[00:28:48] It keeps you alive.

[00:28:50] It keeps you aware.

[00:28:51] It keeps you on your toes, you know.

[00:28:53] You don't want to be the only one doing it because after a point being the only one doing this, you're going to be like, well, then I can half do it, you know.

[00:29:01] You don't want that.

[00:29:02] And I definitely wouldn't want to do that to you guys.

[00:29:06] Let's see.

[00:29:07] This was posted three days ago and I'm trying to see.

[00:29:11] Okay.

[00:29:12] So it says, attention McMinnville and Warren County residents.

[00:29:16] This is on the City of McMinnville government page on Facebook.

[00:29:20] I'm reading this.

[00:29:21] The City of McMinnville is launching a new project hub with a dedicated projects pages to keep you informed about private developments and city led projects.

[00:29:32] You can stay up to date on projects, scoops, timelines, designs, and planning documents, photos, and so much more.

[00:29:40] Plus, you can sign up for notifications to stay in the loop.

[00:29:43] And I have done this.

[00:29:44] If you have not, get a part of it.

[00:29:48] This is one way of keeping in the know.

[00:29:50] If you can't watch the meetings that are live on YouTube, you need to do this.

[00:29:57] And so they created it and I'm looking at it.

[00:30:02] Oh, that's neat.

[00:30:03] So it breaks it down.

[00:30:04] It has everything from community development.

[00:30:08] It has parks and recreation capital.

[00:30:11] It has public works in there.

[00:30:14] It's got the water and waste water.

[00:30:17] And it has the parks and recreation grants.

[00:30:20] Because a lot of people are always wondering, where does our money go to?

[00:30:24] Where does the taxpayer money go?

[00:30:26] And grants are very specific in detail.

[00:30:30] So like if you have to pave, say, a city road.

[00:30:33] Well, that grant has to say this money is for city road paving.

[00:30:39] Like it has to be specific.

[00:30:40] You couldn't use, to me, with grants.

[00:30:44] The grant doesn't say do county roads.

[00:30:47] It says do a city road, right?

[00:30:49] So you've got to follow the grants.

[00:30:50] And this will help you out.

[00:30:51] And they even broke it down that way as well.

[00:30:53] They have it down to the parks and recs grants, to public works grants,

[00:30:58] the water and waste management grants.

[00:31:00] You can see all of this.

[00:31:02] And then there is, it even has on here, opportunities to engage.

[00:31:08] And if you click on it right now, it says the park theater.

[00:31:12] It's a proposed project would bring a 14 by 14 selfie wall to the eastern.

[00:31:19] And that's when it cuts off.

[00:31:22] And it says that this is going to close on 12, 20, 2024.

[00:31:31] And it's an approximately, I guess, a three-minute survey that you would take.

[00:31:36] But again, you can go on this app.

[00:31:39] If you go to the city of McMinnville government page, which I'll share it to ours,

[00:31:44] it's going to be right at the top.

[00:31:45] You can click on that and be more informative and read what is going on in this community.

[00:31:51] Where's the money going?

[00:31:53] And then they even have a second thing where it breaks down the grants for each section.

[00:31:59] So again, make sure you be a part of that.

[00:32:02] McMinnville Police Department has put out, it's always the season to drive sober.

[00:32:07] Make it home to your family this holiday season by making the right choice.

[00:32:11] If you've been drinking, don't get behind the wheel.

[00:32:16] You can booze it.

[00:32:17] If you booze it, you can lose it.

[00:32:20] And so again, drive safe.

[00:32:23] And speaking of the police department, we're going to have Mark Mara come in here on Thursday

[00:32:28] to talk about that.

[00:32:30] You can see that they already have signs of your speeding, like what your speed is

[00:32:35] and things like that to, you know, and it even has a sign to, you know,

[00:32:40] booze that are losing and drive this holiday season.

[00:32:45] New Year's Eve party.

[00:32:46] So Dwayne posted, he says,

[00:32:49] Milner Center or Collender Barbecue would be an awesome spot for a big New Year's Eve party.

[00:32:54] Of course, they would have to come up with a plan to serve drinks and et cetera.

[00:32:59] Exactly.

[00:33:00] But if anybody knows of ones that are already in the works, like at the well,

[00:33:06] and that is the only one currently that I'm aware of.

[00:33:10] Like if you don't want to do a party from home, the well is the only one that I am aware of.

[00:33:20] Oh, that'd be neat.

[00:33:22] I like that, Dwayne.

[00:33:23] He says, maybe have a block party on New Year's Eve.

[00:33:27] Are you talking about like in the downtown areas?

[00:33:31] I guess that's, yeah, downtown.

[00:33:33] That'd be kind of neat if like everybody got involved somehow.

[00:33:36] You know, we used to have back like when I was in high school,

[00:33:42] every holiday was celebrated downtown somehow, some way,

[00:33:46] like New Year's Eve and then Fourth of July, of course.

[00:33:51] And then Valentine's Day was another one that they did a lot of.

[00:33:56] I remember before Matt and Anna had it and it was still Miss Linda's over here at the Main Street Bakery.

[00:34:05] Or was it called the Main Street Bakery?

[00:34:06] I think it was just called the bakery.

[00:34:08] But anyways, Brita can correct me if she's watching.

[00:34:11] But I used to sing out there, sing out there all the time.

[00:34:14] And they would make us dress up as characters.

[00:34:17] Like I have been Dottie West.

[00:34:19] I have been Doris Day, you know, a couple.

[00:34:23] And then I also have played myself.

[00:34:24] And like we made sure the songs we sang were based on that theme.

[00:34:31] So, again, just some things to look at.

[00:34:36] We already talked about that.

[00:34:41] Our sister county, White County in Sparta, they are looking to hire.

[00:34:46] If I actually had some people last night asking, you know, looking for jobs.

[00:34:50] And White County schools are hiring.

[00:34:53] They're looking for bus driver substitutes.

[00:34:55] Which keep in mind when I say this, this is crazy.

[00:34:58] But a bus driver substitute gets paid more than a teacher substitute.

[00:35:07] Because they're like $75, $85, depending on where you go, private or public.

[00:35:11] But with that said, they're looking for a bus driver substitute.

[00:35:16] That's $100 a day.

[00:35:19] And then they're also looking for a food nutrition substitute.

[00:35:23] That is $12.42 an hour.

[00:35:27] So, there you go.

[00:35:28] And it says, join our team.

[00:35:30] We're hiring.

[00:35:31] And I'll share this as well on our Facebook page.

[00:35:37] So, in case you're looking for a job.

[00:35:39] I know that the Warren County High School and the Warren County School Systems in general and the private schools, they are looking for substitutes.

[00:35:47] They're looking for people to help everywhere.

[00:35:51] And, you know, and again, you can also look.

[00:35:53] I can't remember what the site was exactly called to the T.

[00:35:56] But if you go to warrenschools.com, you can go on there and click on jobs.

[00:36:02] Because they were also looking to job hire full-time positions as well.

[00:36:07] So, you can look at that.

[00:36:12] Let's see.

[00:36:13] No.

[00:36:15] So, as we're gearing up, McMinnville Parks and Recreation, they just posted 17 minutes ago.

[00:36:21] Prizes are up for grabs tonight.

[00:36:23] They're doing bingo night number two.

[00:36:25] Check out the pictures from last week's bingo night.

[00:36:29] And join us tonight for round two at 530.

[00:36:33] Call 473-1212 to pre-register as there's only 18 spots available.

[00:36:40] So, if you want to do some Christmas bingo, which, by the way, I love it.

[00:36:46] I was trying to see.

[00:36:48] Oh, that was from last week.

[00:36:49] Gosh, love it.

[00:36:50] I love that.

[00:36:53] Like I said, there's only 18 spots available.

[00:36:56] But the deadline, or not the deadline.

[00:36:59] So, tonight it starts at 530 on the 17th at the Milner Recreation Center Conference Room.

[00:37:06] Rules are 18 players per night.

[00:37:09] The prizes include included in the MR Milner Recreation Center membership or a daily mission fee.

[00:37:18] There's two prizes max per player.

[00:37:21] And there's eight games a night.

[00:37:23] So, again, many chances to win.

[00:37:27] Prizes have been provided by Tim's Motors and Window Tinning, Southern Traditions Gifts and Interior,

[00:37:35] Morton's Horticultural Products, The Crafty Hut, The Red Door Boutique, Lemon, Tammy's Market, and the Three Sisters Candle Company.

[00:37:44] So, make sure you make plans for that.

[00:37:47] Tonight, there is bingo to be had.

[00:37:51] Well, let's see.

[00:37:59] Let's see.

[00:38:07] I'm trying to see.

[00:38:12] A night spent with the JA Sisters is always a night well spent.

[00:38:16] We would like to thank Kirby for hosting our Christmas party last night.

[00:38:21] That's the Junior Auxiliary of McMinnville.

[00:38:23] So, don't forget, if you want to go to tonight's Warren County Ball Game, get your swag on at the Hitch Outfitters.

[00:38:31] There is a special going on today, 20% off all Pioneer gear.

[00:38:36] Perfect for Christmas and basketball season.

[00:38:40] P.S.

[00:38:40] Don't forget, all Christmas is 25% off all week long.

[00:38:45] So, if you have not got a Dirty Santa gift or a gift from somebody you know that loves the Warren County Pioneers or Warren County in general, go and get you some swag, guys.

[00:38:54] I mean, she's got amazing opportunity.

[00:38:58] Look at that.

[00:38:59] Towels, stickers, the bags.

[00:39:02] I mean, who wouldn't want that?

[00:39:05] Speaking of, I'm probably going to go get some after this anyways.

[00:39:08] They even have the head-to-toe Pioneer, Warren County Pioneers jogging suit.

[00:39:17] That looks cozy and comfy.

[00:39:19] I like that.

[00:39:21] And then, don't forget, even, you know, not just for adults, but kids' sizes as well.

[00:39:26] And that's at the Hitch Outfitters.

[00:39:28] So, if you're going to the game tonight and you want some Warren County swag, get it while it's on sale.

[00:39:32] It's the best time to do it.

[00:39:36] Let's see.

[00:39:41] If you haven't checked out Community TV TN, make sure you do because they are sharing tons of videos that are going on this week.

[00:39:49] This morning, he shares a video of sharing a Christmas dinner.

[00:39:55] And I want to say that's with the Matthew group.

[00:40:01] Oh, let's see.

[00:40:07] Let's see.

[00:40:08] No, no.

[00:40:11] Oh, and this made McMinnville chatter the other day.

[00:40:13] Because, of course, if no one's following, because I'm a huge Dolly Parton fan.

[00:40:18] And speaking of Dolly, I want to do this right quick.

[00:40:21] Miss Anna from Topps got me this cute Dolly Parton cup filled with ornament chocolates.

[00:40:29] And she has an amazing place out in Gatlinburg called Dollywood.

[00:40:33] If you haven't been out there, please check it out.

[00:40:35] But last weekend or the weekend before last, Keith Urban and his wife, Nicole, and their kids was there.

[00:40:45] And they got to walk around Dollywood if you didn't see them.

[00:40:48] All nonchalant.

[00:40:49] And then right after they were gone, Jason Aldean and his crew was there.

[00:40:54] But he was at Bucky's and then he went to Gatlinburg.

[00:40:57] So, again, fun times.

[00:41:02] And then lastly, as I'm wrapping it up here, and I want to thank everybody for watching the show this morning.

[00:41:11] Newsletters are going to be going out tonight.

[00:41:14] We are not going to do paper copies this week.

[00:41:20] Because this week and next week, I wanted to give the girls at the, to catch up.

[00:41:28] Because I know they had so many things going on.

[00:41:30] And so, I just didn't want them to worry about my newsletter.

[00:41:32] So, this week and next week is digital copies only.

[00:41:36] You have two ways of looking at it.

[00:41:37] You can get a digital copy emailed to you by texting the keyword local voice to 931-305-0869.

[00:41:46] And make sure you tag your email in that.

[00:41:48] Don't forget, tag your email.

[00:41:51] And I'll send you a digital copy tonight.

[00:41:57] Or you can see it on Facebook and Instagram.

[00:42:00] I will always share it that way.

[00:42:02] I did have a young, I say a young lady.

[00:42:04] I did have a lady call me yesterday that was having trouble reading it.

[00:42:09] And she's just not capable of leaving her home.

[00:42:12] And so, I asked her, what would be an easy way to get it to you?

[00:42:16] And I am going to offer this because that's just how sweet and nice I am.

[00:42:20] Because that's just how I am.

[00:42:21] But I offered, I can either text it to you personally, page by page.

[00:42:27] Or I don't care to literally mail it to you.

[00:42:30] Mail it to your address.

[00:42:31] So, if you want, you know, the newsletter sent to your home, you have to text me at 931-305-0869 to let me know that.

[00:42:43] And of course, give me your address and I will mail it to you.

[00:42:47] If you're just not going to get it as quickly as everybody else does, you can send me your email.

[00:42:52] Or if you want me to text you the pages, I can do that as well.

[00:42:56] Whatever would make it easier on you as an individual, that is my goal.

[00:43:02] And she opted for the, if I just text it to her.

[00:43:06] So, that's what I'm going to do.

[00:43:10] So, but tonight, I'm just waiting for one more story.

[00:43:13] And it's a good one.

[00:43:15] We found out there, there has been some new ownership of exchanging hands at a restaurant.

[00:43:22] And we just want to make sure to get all the details.

[00:43:24] And so, our on-field reporter, Jenna, or Guinevere Jacobs, she is going to do that story today for us.

[00:43:33] And send it to me to get it into the newsletter before sending this out.

[00:43:38] But in our newsletter, I do want to do a little teaser.

[00:43:40] We are going to be talking about the sing-along with Santa that happened over the weekend.

[00:43:45] We're also going to be, we showcased a lot of amazing pictures that were courtesy of Melody Crimm Photography.

[00:43:53] Also, the magical evening at the last second Saturday of the year with Santa and more.

[00:44:00] Again, this is just the last one of the year.

[00:44:03] It was this past Saturday.

[00:44:04] A lot of folks came out.

[00:44:05] They braved the weather.

[00:44:06] And so, we wanted to make sure to take pictures of that to let everybody know.

[00:44:10] And talk a little bit about it.

[00:44:12] I also want to say a shout-out to one of our newest sponsors for the newsletter, Roland Renovations.

[00:44:22] You can check them out.

[00:44:23] They're an amazing group of people.

[00:44:25] I graduated with his wife.

[00:44:28] Shout-out to you this morning, Crystal.

[00:44:30] But they are one of our brand new sponsors here with Warren First 931.

[00:44:35] And I want to give them all the love starting today as they have made the newsletter as we worked out the details on that and more.

[00:44:44] Also, I reissued this.

[00:44:47] We had it in our last week's newsletter.

[00:44:49] And I want to have it again in this week's.

[00:44:51] But there is a fundraiser going on this Saturday.

[00:44:55] If you want to be a part of the Mufasa fundraiser movie put together by Pure Wealth.

[00:45:05] They're sponsoring this event at the Three Star Cinema.

[00:45:08] It's on Saturday, December the 21st.

[00:45:10] The movie showing is at 4 o'clock.

[00:45:13] Tickets are $8.

[00:45:15] Proceeds are going to help the sheltered animals, sheltered dogs and more.

[00:45:21] Because, again, you know, we just need help with these funds.

[00:45:25] I did a nice little article about it.

[00:45:28] If you want tickets, you can purchase them in advance from Holly Cox.

[00:45:34] You can call her or text her at 235-8538 or go to Security Federal Savings Bank and see Sabrina Keaton.

[00:45:44] She has tickets as well.

[00:45:46] But if you don't want to get the tickets in advance and you just were like, well, I'll just get the tickets when we go Saturday.

[00:45:51] That's fine, too.

[00:45:53] Because the proceeds will help the animals.

[00:45:56] And just like when I was talking to CK, she said this is just a wonderful opportunity for the community to come together, enjoy a fantastic movie, and make a positive impact on the lives of sheltered animals.

[00:46:11] And, of course, CK, she is a part of the Pure Wealth.

[00:46:17] Her and Dan Sellers, they do a phenomenal job.

[00:46:19] But, again, that event is going to be at the Three Star Cinema this Saturday on December the 21st at 4 p.m.

[00:46:27] And tickets are $8.

[00:46:30] I was trying to think.

[00:46:33] And then moving on.

[00:46:35] Of course, this week and then before we let anybody go, I did put in there, we talked about it on yesterday's show, about the Icelandic Christmas folklore.

[00:46:44] And I got to know a little bit more of the folklore, not just Three Melody, but when I watched the movie Red One, it brought out a lot of these folklores from other places, which I think is really neat that, you know, the movie companies are looking into that.

[00:47:01] It's not just Santa movies and elves and, you know, the Frosty the Snowman and Gingerbread and, you know, all that stuff.

[00:47:08] They're going in a little bit deeper because I didn't know who Gorilla was until I watched Red One.

[00:47:14] And then when Melody mentioned it yesterday, I was like, I know who you're talking about.

[00:47:18] She's the Ogre Witch.

[00:47:19] And so, with her 13 sons, which are the Yule Lads, which are also in the Red One movie.

[00:47:27] She just doesn't, you know, call them that.

[00:47:30] I don't think.

[00:47:30] I have to re-watch it again.

[00:47:34] And then, let me see.

[00:47:36] Also, in the newsletter, we talk about, if you missed it, the annual Nativity Festival.

[00:47:43] That was a two-parter.

[00:47:45] It's a celebration of faith and community.

[00:47:48] We did a lovely little write-up about that.

[00:47:51] So, shout-out to Miss Miriam and all what the ladies do there.

[00:47:55] Also, the Black House guys.

[00:47:58] Over the past weekend, they had their Christmas open house at the Black House.

[00:48:03] And if you missed it, you know, for shame on you because that money that they raised do go there.

[00:48:08] But it's just a really nice time to see what the Thomas, Dr. Thomas Black House looks like during the Christmas time.

[00:48:15] It's one of the most historical places I've always known about here in McMinnville or one of many that I've known here.

[00:48:22] And, again, if you ever want to go check, do tours at the Black House, you can do that.

[00:48:27] Just call them and make, you know, make plans.

[00:48:30] Last opportunity to see Santa at the detention will be on December the 21st from 2 to 4.

[00:48:36] Pictures, you can bring your kids, get your phone, and take pictures with Santa.

[00:48:42] It's a great time to come out there.

[00:48:44] If we have time, I'm going to do that as well.

[00:48:46] Also, other opportunities to see Santa and his reindeer and friends will be on December the 21st and the 22nd.

[00:48:56] And this is all at the Rock Island Trolley Stop.

[00:48:59] And you can see them on the 21st.

[00:49:01] They'll be there from 12 to 3.

[00:49:03] And then on Sunday, the 22nd, it's going to be from 2 to 4 p.m.

[00:49:08] So, after church, if your kids got those cute little outfits on, go take them to see Santa.

[00:49:15] And also, too, before I forget to mention, I'm going to try to see if I can get somebody on for this.

[00:49:20] I keep forgetting to call them, too.

[00:49:22] Come see Bethlehem, a live walkthrough nativity.

[00:49:26] Travel with us as we journey on our way.

[00:49:29] It all started as an ordinary day, yet the greatest miracle of them all would arrive in the still,

[00:49:35] quiet darkness of night when Jesus was born.

[00:49:39] And all the humanity would be forever changed.

[00:49:42] This is at the Pentecostal of McMinnville, located at 1707 Yeager Road in McMinnville, Tennessee.

[00:49:50] So, December the 19th, 20th, and the 21st from 5 to 8 p.m.

[00:49:55] Three days to see this event.

[00:49:57] So, that is the 19th, the 20th, and the 21st, which is Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

[00:50:04] And that's from 5 to 8 p.m.

[00:50:07] The final walkthrough, sorry, that's Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

[00:50:11] The final walkthrough is on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 1230 p.m.

[00:50:17] And it is free to the public.

[00:50:19] And this is a live walkthrough nativity scene.

[00:50:23] I think that's just so neat.

[00:50:25] So, make sure you check that out.

[00:50:27] That's just a couple things going on.

[00:50:28] Also, Melody talked about this on yesterday.

[00:50:31] Tomorrow, don't forget, on the 18th at the Park Theater, the Warren County High School Jazz Band Christmas Concerts going to be going on.

[00:50:40] We got Hark at the Park going on Saturday the 21st at 7 p.m. at the Park Theater.

[00:50:47] And then, of course, on Saturday, December the 28th, Southern Sunrise at the Fraternal Order of Eagles, 4190, which is in Rock Island, Tennessee.

[00:50:57] They're going to be having live music at 8 p.m.

[00:51:01] So, that is a couple of the events that I have got going down.

[00:51:05] And again, thanks to Reddick Brownford for also being our upcoming event sponsor as well because all these events.

[00:51:11] And I say this over and over.

[00:51:13] If you have an event going on, text me or call me at 931-305-0869.

[00:51:20] Sometimes, I don't catch everything on Facebook.

[00:51:23] And I try my best, my darndest, to do so.

[00:51:26] And I want to make sure before I move on to the next thing that I've caught everything.

[00:51:44] I can't read that out loud.

[00:51:46] Thank you, David.

[00:51:47] Or, sorry.

[00:51:48] Thank you, Dwayne.

[00:51:50] Let's see.

[00:51:51] Kev will message me.

[00:51:52] I already talked about that.

[00:51:54] I was trying to see if there was anything else on the other one.

[00:51:59] Let me go on my other chat group.

[00:52:07] Oh, that's old.

[00:52:11] That's old.

[00:52:13] Oh, let's see.

[00:52:18] Have you seen the Manchester, Tennessee Elfine?

[00:52:21] They are doing.

[00:52:22] Yes.

[00:52:23] So, thank you, Rana.

[00:52:25] Or, Renina.

[00:52:26] Is that how you say it?

[00:52:26] Malone.

[00:52:27] I have seen this.

[00:52:29] There is Elfine.

[00:52:30] It's called Elfine going around in Manchester.

[00:52:33] And I saw it yesterday.

[00:52:35] It posted somewhere.

[00:52:36] I don't know if it was chatter or something.

[00:52:37] But I also saw it on Facebook.

[00:52:40] Stating, you know, it's just a bag of goodies.

[00:52:43] And it's like, you know, you don't have to know the person.

[00:52:47] And somebody put money in an envelope.

[00:52:51] And took a picture of it.

[00:52:53] And if you find it, you find it.

[00:52:55] And then that's your gift.

[00:52:56] And so, what they're doing, essentially.

[00:52:59] I'm going to read this.

[00:53:01] It says, let's spread some holiday cheer in Manchester.

[00:53:04] When visiting my mom in Macon County,

[00:53:06] the town was participating in a thing called Elfine.

[00:53:10] I wanted to start it here in Manchester.

[00:53:12] It involves hiding a gift around town with a clue of where it is.

[00:53:16] And so, that's what somebody did here in McMinnville.

[00:53:19] They posted a picture.

[00:53:20] It looks like it was under a cone.

[00:53:22] And it was an envelope.

[00:53:23] And then they gave a clue where it could be.

[00:53:25] And then somebody would find it.

[00:53:27] So, share who it will be.

[00:53:31] It may be for long.

[00:53:32] And a picture of a clue.

[00:53:34] So, and here's how to play.

[00:53:36] One, you hide a little gift anywhere in McMinnville.

[00:53:40] And then the gift can be new, used, or homemade.

[00:53:44] My favorite gifts involves purchases from local small businesses.

[00:53:48] So, say we want to do this here in our town.

[00:53:50] You could go to the Crafty Hut.

[00:53:53] You could come here at Tops.

[00:53:54] You could go to Cumberland.

[00:53:55] You can get a gift card anywhere.

[00:53:57] Go to Mud Bums.

[00:53:57] Go to any of these stores.

[00:53:59] Even you could go to the home store that's over at Northgate.

[00:54:03] At the Plaza, I should say.

[00:54:05] And you can get like something from there.

[00:54:07] By buying something there, you're helping out that non-profit.

[00:54:11] And then you put the item wherever.

[00:54:12] But with that said, then once you get the gift, whether it's new, used, or homemade,

[00:54:20] you post it in this group.

[00:54:22] So, if you want to post it, we can make posts here on our Warner First page.

[00:54:27] Post it in the McMinnville Chatter page.

[00:54:29] That's where I've seen it posted a few times.

[00:54:31] You post it in that group chat.

[00:54:33] Post a picture of where the gift is hidden.

[00:54:36] A clue or a riddle to help people find it.

[00:54:39] Like, think scavenger hunt vibes.

[00:54:42] Like, you know, the Painted Rocks game, essentially.

[00:54:47] Specify if it's for a man, a woman, a boy, or a girl, or anyone.

[00:54:52] Because if it's not for everyone, not everyone should go find it, right?

[00:54:56] And third, once someone finds your gift, they'll post the picture.

[00:54:59] If you find that gift, that person needs to post a picture under the original post saying it has been found.

[00:55:06] This helps everyone know that it's been claimed.

[00:55:10] And then, of course, a friendly reminder.

[00:55:12] Let's keep this fun fair for everyone.

[00:55:14] Once the gift is plenty to enjoy, if you're lucky enough to find one, take a moment to appreciate it.

[00:55:20] And then the true magic of elfing is in giving and sharing the joy.

[00:55:25] So, if you guys would like to do that, I've seen it already started somewhere.

[00:55:32] Elfing could be with your family group, your friends group, or your community.

[00:55:37] Whatever the case may be, make it count and just appreciate everything that you do with that.

[00:55:43] And, again, don't forget, while I'm talking about this, we are having, again, those acts of kindness.

[00:55:51] And I want to make sure I give you the right one.

[00:55:55] Because right now, we've done day four.

[00:55:59] Yesterday was day five.

[00:56:01] And I was trying, well, where am I going, Kelly Walker?

[00:56:04] Come on now.

[00:56:06] So, today is day six.

[00:56:09] And if you haven't started the challenge, you can start whenever your little heart desires.

[00:56:15] That's what I had to do.

[00:56:16] That's what I was going on here.

[00:56:18] I've got to go back to my Canvae because that's where it's all at.

[00:56:22] Okay.

[00:56:26] Here it is.

[00:56:27] Yeah.

[00:56:27] So, we've already done five days.

[00:56:31] And today makes day six.

[00:56:33] Day six on your 12 Days of Kindness Challenge.

[00:56:37] Share a kind word or words on social media.

[00:56:42] Post a shout out to someone who inspires you and why they matter to you.

[00:56:49] Okay.

[00:56:49] So, again, today's challenge is share some kind words on social media about someone that means that has inspired you.

[00:57:03] Or someone that, you know, someone that matters to you the most.

[00:57:07] And tell them why you love them so much.

[00:57:09] But that is today's day six challenge, which I'm also going to download while I'm here.

[00:57:18] Uh, do-do-do-do-do.

[00:57:21] And then I'm going to do that one as well.

[00:57:24] But yesterday's challenge, if you did not get to do it, save it.

[00:57:30] So, I'm scrolling down.

[00:57:33] Day five, which was yesterday, volunteering your time.

[00:57:36] This is something easy.

[00:57:37] It doesn't have to happen overnight.

[00:57:39] It doesn't have to happen yesterday.

[00:57:40] It can happen anytime in this 12-day challenge.

[00:57:43] But volunteering your time.

[00:57:45] Dedicate a couple of hours to a local charity or community organization.

[00:57:49] So, with that said, if you want to help out the Perry's Food Ministry and help hand out food, you can do that.

[00:58:00] You could call the Matthew 25 Ministries and see if there's any, you know, do you need help with that?

[00:58:09] Whether that's collecting blankets or warm things for the folks that's coming up with their event.

[00:58:14] Um, I'm going to be doing my acts of kindness tomorrow, uh, between 1230 and 250 at the Covenant School.

[00:58:24] I'm going to be volunteering my time by watching all of me and a bunch of parents are doing this.

[00:58:30] We're going to be watching, um, the kids.

[00:58:33] We're doing a movie tomorrow between 1230 and 250 with the kids.

[00:58:38] We're going to watch How the Grinch Stole Christmas.

[00:58:40] We're going to play games with the kids.

[00:58:41] While we're doing that, we are giving the teachers from 1230 to 250 to go eat lunch, to go shopping, to go clean their room, catch up on grades, whatever the case may be.

[00:58:58] We wanted to give them some time because they have our kids just as much as we do.

[00:59:03] And to volunteer my time to do that, that is what my one act of kindness is going to be for day six.

[00:59:13] Volunteering my time to something.

[00:59:16] And you guys can do that as well.

[00:59:18] There is so many things in our community that need help.

[00:59:22] And when I also say volunteering time, if you see like that there's trash that needs to be picked up anywhere,

[00:59:29] whether it's at Rock Island State Park or at the, um, or at, you know, I can't even think of the place where it's called now over at the Greenway.

[00:59:39] If you see something, I always say, see a need, fill a need.

[00:59:45] Okay.

[00:59:46] And that can be your time.

[00:59:48] It doesn't have to be for someone or some organization.

[00:59:51] It can be for the community as a whole, giving someone a break, you know?

[00:59:57] So with that said, I am doing my, um, my day six challenge is going to be tomorrow and I'm going to take a picture of it.

[01:00:04] And remember when you see these challenges posted, don't forget to share us what you have done.

[01:00:11] I would love to hear about all the challenges.

[01:00:14] And if you haven't done them yet, start on them today.

[01:00:18] It's not hard at all.

[01:00:20] So today's challenge for you is to, like I said, volunteer your time.

[01:00:24] The day five challenge, um, or no day five was the volunteer challenge.

[01:00:31] Day six, which is today was to share some kind words on social media about somebody that inspires you.

[01:00:38] And that means a lot to you.

[01:00:40] The day four challenge was buy a coffee or a drink for someone.

[01:00:46] You know, um, you can pay, like if you're in the line, pay for the person that's behind you in line.

[01:00:51] It can be for a complete stranger.

[01:00:53] You don't understand like one small, simple act of kindness for a $2 cup of coffee or wherever you go, right?

[01:01:03] Can do for somebody.

[01:01:05] And it's like a full circle when you make somebody's day that morning, starting it off right in the morning.

[01:01:11] If I'll challenge you this, if you're in the Hardee's line tomorrow or today, pay for that person's breakfast behind you.

[01:01:21] I'm telling you, it's just an amazing thing.

[01:01:25] Um, the day three challenge was write a thank you note.

[01:01:30] Like take a moment to write a thank you note to people who have made a positive impact in your life or just have done something sweet.

[01:01:37] Uh, day two's challenge was bring a treat to work or school, whether you made it yourself or you bought it and share it.

[01:01:46] It's always a good time.

[01:01:47] And the first one was complimenting a stranger.

[01:01:50] If you see someone, give them a genuine compliment.

[01:01:53] Like you like their smile or you like that shirt they're wearing today or I love your boots or girl, where are you get your hair done at?

[01:02:02] Uh, but make it a genuine compliment to a stranger.

[01:02:06] It's not hard.

[01:02:07] So far we're six days in.

[01:02:09] So get on it y'all.

[01:02:12] As I say.

[01:02:14] Um, but with that said, before we wrap it up, we always want to end it with some type of folklore.

[01:02:21] And of course, since she is not here today, I was hoping she would come in because she's really good about folklore and stuff.

[01:02:30] She's better than it went in the me.

[01:02:33] Okay.

[01:02:34] Well, I guess I'm just going to do this way Christmas.

[01:02:38] Cause we talked about the Icelandic one yesterday, which was, I thought super cool and neat.

[01:02:45] Okay.

[01:02:49] So we are going to do yesterday.

[01:02:52] We did talk about the Yule lads.

[01:02:54] We talked a little bit about the Yule cat as well, but this one, which I'm going to.

[01:03:06] So Mary LWYD.

[01:03:12] And I'm going to say Mary Laud.

[01:03:15] Uh, it, this is, it's another creepy character day for me.

[01:03:19] Um, and I want to see.

[01:03:22] Oh, okay.

[01:03:28] Here we go.

[01:03:28] So the tradition entails the use of an, a hobby horse, which is made from a horse's skull.

[01:03:39] And it's mounted on a pole and carried by an individual hidden under a sheet.

[01:03:45] This is Mary Laud.

[01:03:47] And what it is, the custom was first recorded in the 1800s with a subsequent accounts of being produced into the early 20th century.

[01:03:58] And according to these, the Mary Laud was a tradition performed at Christmas time by groups of men who would accompany the horse on its travels around the local area.

[01:04:10] And although the makeup of such groups varied, they typically included an individual to carry the horse, a leader, and the individuals had to dress as a stocked characters, such as like a punch and a Judy back in the day.

[01:04:28] The men would carry the Mary Laud in local houses where they would request entry through song.

[01:04:36] The householders would be expected to deny them entry and again through song.

[01:04:42] And the two sides would continue their responses to one another in this manner.

[01:04:48] If the householders eventually relented, the team would be permitted entry and given food and drink.

[01:04:57] Although the custom was given various names, it was best known as the Mary Laud.

[01:05:03] The mythological mythology of this term remains the subject of the academic debate.

[01:05:13] The folklorist, Lorith C. Peet, believed that the term meant Holy Mary and thus was a reference to Mary, Mother of Jesus.

[01:05:24] While the folklorist E.C. Coffey thought it was more likely that the term had originally meant Great Mayor, referring to the heads of the horse's appearance,

[01:05:37] several earlier folklorists examined the topic, such as Pete and Ellen, and they believe that the tradition had once been a pre-Christian religious rite.

[01:05:51] Although scholarly support for this interpretation has declined and meant a lack of supporting evidence,

[01:05:58] the absence of late medieval references to such practices and geographic various British hooded animal traditions.

[01:06:09] Among them are the hooding of Kent, the broad of the Coats words, and the old ball, old tup, and the old horse of Northern England.

[01:06:20] Have led to suggestions that they have derived from the religion list population of the 16th and 17th century fashion for hobby horses among the social elite.

[01:06:39] And as I'm looking through, oh, okay.

[01:07:24] This is something that's done in the London area.

[01:07:27] Now I really wish that Derek Coates was on to talk to him about this, to see if he knows all about it.

[01:07:40] And I'm like skimming through this.

[01:07:43] But there you go.

[01:07:44] So again, another crazy Christmas tradition that other people do outside of the U.S.

[01:07:54] And so we've talked about, you know, the Yule Lads.

[01:08:01] We've talked about the Yule Cat and Gorilla because they're all tied into one.

[01:08:06] Then we've also talked about now Mary Laud, which is something that is done in the London, England area.

[01:08:14] We will be talking about other characters.

[01:08:17] So bear with us because there's 19 that I have found.

[01:08:22] So, of course, we've been talking about Krampus, but we haven't said like details about Krampus.

[01:08:28] There's also, we talked about Gorilla.

[01:08:30] We talked about Yule Cat, the Lod Boys or the Yule Lads, I should say.

[01:08:36] There's all these different characters of these, you know, and I want to tell you all about how in Ukraine they do something with spider webs.

[01:08:46] There's something about spider webs.

[01:08:49] So, again, I just want everybody to be, you know, like educate because I think I'm getting educated.

[01:08:55] But on Thursday's show, we will talk about Krampus.

[01:09:00] So get ready for that.

[01:09:02] But, again, it has been a phenomenal show today.

[01:09:05] If you want to know everything that is going on and beyond in this community, let me know.

[01:09:11] There's several ways you can do it.

[01:09:12] You can join our text club on our Remind app.

[01:09:15] You text, the number is 81010.

[01:09:21] And then you text the keyword at the at symbol to Warren931.

[01:09:28] And that is the Remind app.

[01:09:30] It will get you on there and then I will approve you on because that's just a safe and easier way for my text group to get out there.

[01:09:36] And don't forget, when snow hits, we do also send out schools closing text messages as well just to keep you informed and to stay ahead.

[01:09:46] As well as the last message I sent out was about the school's spirit week.

[01:09:51] I try to just cram all those pictures in as best I could.

[01:09:55] And if you're not getting them, you need to let me know because that just happens for a time or two.

[01:10:20] Enjoy the rest of your day, guys.

[01:10:21] It has been a phenomenal day here on our Christmas edition week.

[01:10:26] As all week long, it's going to be Christmas, Christmas, Christmas, Christmas.

[01:10:30] And all next week, don't forget, we will not only have one show next week.

[01:10:35] And that will be on Monday because Cousin Eddie is going to be making an appearance

[01:10:40] and letting us know where he's going to be and where we can see him at and meet him.

[01:10:44] It's always a tradition to hang out with that man anyways.

[01:10:48] But he will be on our show with us on Monday morning at 9 o'clock.

[01:10:51] We're going to do something really special for that show.

[01:10:55] I'm trying to get together.

[01:10:56] But with that, take care.

[01:10:57] God bless.

[01:10:58] Enjoy the rest of your day, Warren County.

[01:11:00] And remember, keep it first.
